Laboratory StaffingThe Public Health Laboratory is staffed by State certified Public Health Microbiologists. Requirements include a bachelor's degree in Microbiology or a related field. There is a six-month training period, followed by State certification examination. Contact Laboratory Field Services at the website link for specific application requirements. How long does it take to get California CLS license?Minimum one year of post-baccalaureate clinical training as a CLS. Minimum one year of work experience as a CLS performing high complexity testing in hematology, chemistry, blood bank, and microbiology. Training or work experience must be comprehensive to cover all areas of the clinical laboratory.
Can a CLS draw blood in California?Only people who are authorized can perform phlebotomy in California. Generally those authorized are licensed physicians, registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, licensed clinical lab scientists and certified phlebotomists.
Who regulates labs in California?California Health and Safety Code Division 101, Part 3, Chapter 2, Article 5, Sections 101160 – 101165 govern municipal and county laboratories and their compliance with the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA).
Is ASCP accepted in California?California Licensure AND ASCP Certification
The ASCP Board of Certification examinations have been approved for licensure purposes by the state of California. It is important students complete the Online Application for ASCP certification.
