Research and help from the web indicates that the Crank sensor may be at fault, Pep boys charges $30 labor to install, but I'd like to do it myself but can't even see where it is no matter where I look. The Haynes book diagram doesn't even make sense. Any idea where I should look?

Thanks

OK, I'm going to answer my own question for future help to others. The crankshaft postion sensor is extremely easy to do and will only take about 10 minutes.

1. With the engine hood up, Disconnect the air filter assembly housing, two 10 mm bolts, the hose that goes into the valve cover etc, and the black hose that goes into the manifold. Leave the actual air filter 'box' alone.

2. Follow a 1/2 inch thick wire harness travelling north and south, with north being the front of the car. A 10 mm bolt will hold the sensor which slips into a hole in the transmission. Remove the bolt, pull out the sensor, disconnect the wires.

3. Attach the new sensor making sure the cardboard is still on the tip of the sensor, it is a spacer which is crucial. Re attach the wire harness, slip in the 10mm bolt, and tighten.

4. Back to installing the air manifold stuff and you should be in business, all from the top of the engine.

Best of luck!

My van currently has 190,000 miles and recently replaced Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) after MIL code P0339 & P1128. This is the location of crankshaft position sensor after removing the coil pack and the platform where the coil pack sits on. I watch an YouTube video of 2005 dodge caravan with same engine and followed some wires back to the CPS .. The CPS was under the exhaust manifold and I also unplugged the Cooland sensor just to have more room to see

Took your advise and it worked like a champ. Could not see the thing before and had great difficulty finding it. Your idea solved the issue - Thanks!

By the way, the mileage at the time of replacement was almost exactly the same as yours - 188K miles

Chrysler 2.4 crankshaft position sensor is bolted in lower engine block, behind the engine (engine side facing the vehicle's firewall) look above the oil filter adapter from under car. Crank sensor held/secured by a bolt, remove bolt and sensor will come out with a little pull/twist force. Links below show the location and how to test crank sensor. Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.
