Microsoft added three games to the Xbox One Backward Compatibility list today, bringing the grand total of Xbox 360 games that can be played on the console to 417. Today's additions are all from Telltale Games' The Walking Dead series of games.

Here's what's new:

The Walking Dead: Michonne - A Telltale Miniseries stars the iconic, blade-wielding character from Robert Kirkman's best-selling comic books. Haunted by her past, and coping with unimaginable loss and regret, the story explores Michonne's absence between issues #126 and #139 of the comic book. Over the three episodes of the miniseries, players will discover what took Michonne away from Rick, Ezekiel, and the rest of her trusted group… and what brought her back. Download Episode One of The Walking Dead: Michonne - A Telltale Miniseries, a three part episodic game series from the creators of The Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series, and Tales from the Borderlands.

The Walking Dead: Season Two (Free)

Download Episode One of The Walking Dead: Season Two, a five-part game series that continues the story of Clementine, a young girl orphaned by the undead apocalypse. Left to fend for herself, she has been forced to learn how to survive in a world gone mad. Many months have passed since the events seen in Season One of The Walking Dead, and Clementine is searching for safety. But what can an ordinary child do to stay alive when the living can be just as bad – and sometimes worse – than the dead? As Clementine, you will be tested by situations and dilemmas that will test your morals and your instinct for survival. Your decisions and actions will change the story around you, in this sequel to 2012’s Game of the Year.

Clearly, you should be adding The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: Season Two to your library right now, as they're listed at everyone's favorite price: free. You'll have to pay for additional episodes, but it's a great starting point.

But if you're looking for more games on the cheap, don't forget about Games with Gold, which offers four free games (two Xbox One and two Xbox 360) per month to Xbox Live Gold subscribers. There are just a couple of days left to this month, so you're running out of time to claim Slime Rancher (Xbox One) and Red Faction: Armageddon (Xbox 360). You've also got until September 15 to grab Trials Fusion (Xbox One), which is also among this month's offers.

Of course, there will be a new round of Games with Gold beginning on September 1. Beginning on that date, subscribers will be able to claim Forza Motorsport 5 (Xbox One) and Hydro Thunder (Xbox 360).

This game was released on March 19, 2013 and is no longer available to pre-order. Any incentives that were offered are listed below.

This upcoming FPS game from Terminal Reality is a prequel to The Walking Dead TV series which puts the player into the shoes of Daryl Dixon (voiced by Norman Reedus). Daryl, along with his brother Merle, have to make their way across the walker-infested Georgia to the city of Atlanta.

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct lets the players choose between trying to sneak past groups of zombies and fighting them head-on. The Walkers aren’t the only problem in the game though: the two brothers also encounter other survivors who can either help or hurt them. Furthermore, the unforgiving, post-apocalyptic world makes it necessary to ration food and save ammunition in order to survive.

Pre-order bonuses

The following two retailers are offering exclusive bonuses to those who pre-order The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct from them:

  • Amazon: Walker Execution Pack which contains five melee weapons such as a survival knife, a sawtoothed machete, and a kukri.
  • GameStop: Herd Mode Challenge, an exclusive co-op multiplayer mode where players have to fight off waves of walkers, plus a rather gruesome Walker Ear Keychain.

Do note that the DLCs listed above are for Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game (the Wii U version only gets the keychain at GameStop).

Gameplay trailer

Judging by this trailer, Survival Instinct isn’t very impressive in terms of graphics:

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is scheduled to be released on March 19, 2013 for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles. The Wii U version is set to launch a week later, on the 26th.
