5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for camping and travel

I bought this for camping. It worked perfectly! It makes A LOT more coffee than I thought. The filter slips in easily when metal outer container is heated. The item is sturdy and well made.

I’d been looking to upgrade my camping coffee prep as previously I’d had a percolator I’d inherited and everyone knows the issues with those. I had a French press but the stem ended up having a defect that wouldn’t filter the coffee right. It also wasn’t made for camping. When I saw this it jumped out at me. It is perfectly made for travel and home use. I used corse ground coffee and it came out perfect with no grounds in my cup, just a bit of sediment. I also had no issues with the plunge. I used my index fingers and thumbs to press evenly on the top. I’d say it’s good for 3 regular sized cups of coffee.

Clean up was a breeze and I just let it air dry on a dish rack

Only bummer is it doesn’t work on induction stove tops. Unfortunately in the question section someone listed that it does but I assure you it does not. Luckily I have a kettle at home that does induction so not a big deal or a reason to downvote. I use a gas range for camping so won’t be an issue there.

If you’re looking for a cheap, easy way to make coffee at home or on the road, this is the one.

Such a smart and simple way to get a French pressed cup of coffee in while you're camping. Just fill with water, boil, add your coffee grounds of choice, place the presser in and press the coffee grounds down to beable to pour your coffee out without any grounds! I recommend for an easy, fresh and good tasting coffee while camping/traveling.

I bought my first one almost a decade ago and it's the only coffee pot for me! I use it twice a day and I never had any problems until the welds on the bracket popped off on one side. After making 2 pots of coffee a day for almost 10 years, that's extremely impressive and I didn't have to think twice about buying another one!

I don’t understand the negative reviews this product has. I just received this in the mail and used it at home to make some coffee just to try it out. I absolutely could not believe how easy it was! Just put the coffee grounds and water in, let the coffee brew for about 5 minutes, and then slowly press the plastic filter plunger down. No splashes, no issues, it went down perfectly. Make sure you put it in straight so that the spout is perfectly opposite the handle to ensure smooth pouring. I messed mine up and it was crooked, but I was still able to pour a smooth cup without spilling.

The coffee was *so good*. The filter is just perfect and it honestly came out better than my regular coffee machine that I usually use. I can’t wait to bring it camping and have hot fresh coffee every morning, and it will make the perfect amount for two big mugs for my partner and I—and you could probably get a third or maybe even fourth cup out of it if you want. For a kettle and french press in one that takes up so little room and is so versatile, you really can’t beat the price. I love this little thing!

Stanley has been a flagship of outdoor and home use gear. Love this french-press mug; I have this and Stanley Adventure Camp Cook Set - 24oz Kettle with 2 Ceramic Cups in my car, backpack, and slingbag. The only issue I have is that I hope Stanley actually make a molle pouch for these products. Most pouches you can find are sized for 3x3x9 bottles, the Adventure Camp cook set is fine, but the French press is much bigger. I hope Stanley is reading the reviews and listen to their patrons.

This french press made some excellent coffee on a recent camping trip. The only problem I had was getting it to sit properly on my camp stove as the diameter was almost small enough to pass through the middle of the grate.

I have to admit I am a coffee snob. I don't do starbucks. I like small local shops that do crazy flavors without the added sugary syrups (flavor added during the roast process). At home we have a BUNN drip machine, a pourover flask by Chemex, and two of the vintage Pyrex percolators in different sizes. The only setup we didnt have was a french press. I picked this up for camping since it was stainless and all pieces could nest inside. I like how little space it takes up and it seems to be built well.

So right off the bat, all was well with the purchase. Once we tried it out though!!! Oh Lord, this may be the best flavor we have ever gotten out of our beans (Angel Food Cake flavor). We always grind fresh and we brew multiple ways. I dont know if this specific coffe would taste this good in ANY french press, or if this one is just special lol. Seriously. We may keep it in the house to use on a regular basis rather than pack it away with the camping stuff. It blew our minds.
We have tried 3 different setups for camping and this just is on a whole other level. Good job Stanley.

Took off one star in the "Light Weight" category bc I am comparing it to snowpeak titanium setups etc. that I had been considering. Then again I never tried them, so they may not be as good at brewing coffee.
At least stainless will hold up for a long time

4.0 out of 5 stars Durable - But wish it was All Metal

Reviewed in Canada on October 19, 2020

Bought this for 2 reasons:
1: Because I was tired of breaking the glass french-press at home.
2: Because I wanted something bigger when camping/hiking with my wife (we have a one-person french press for camping/hiking).
Verdict: Has survived all mornings thus far - I have accidentally thrown the bloody thing to floor more than once and it has defended me against an offending squirrel that followed the cat in through the kitchen window once too (listen... my mornings are weird, alright?). It is light enough and it packs alright - you can store all your coffee in a bag in the press for longer trips (4 day trip was our test run) and even pack on the outside of the pack without it denting (definitely didn't fall down a rocky hill-side to accidentally test this out - don't know what you are talking about...).
Works easy when you know how - pay attention to the line! Don't go over it and make sure that if you add the coffee after filling that it doesn't go over. Going above the line causes the press to have issues: overflowing ("yay, burning" said no one ever at 430am in the morning) and it makes it more difficult to press down the plastic press if it is JUST on the line. Once you get used to that design, it works fine - was a little weird to learn at first though.
I want it to be all metal, but I suppose that would cost more, so this is a good middle ground for price and durability and weight. Overall good buy though.

The quality of these items are well below what you would expect from Stanley and really they are just a cafetière. There are are better quality stainless steel coffee presses out there and cheaper. Also the world wide guarantee doesn’t apply in the UK…..shame on Stanley

very robust, feels like it will last a long time..
Dead easy to use, used it half a dozen times, works flawlessly..
Mine came from USA and took 10 days to get here, but well worth the wait.

Love good coffee while out and about

How much coffee do you put in the Stanley French press?

For mild to medium smooth coffee, use a ratio of around 10:1, or ½ cup of whole beans. If you like stronger coffee, try ¾ cups.

What is the ratio for coffee grounds to water for a French press?

While the water is heating, grind your coffee. French press coffee calls for a coarse, even grind. We recommend starting with a 1:12 coffee-to-water ratio. If you're using 350 grams of water, you'll want 30 grams of coffee.

How much coffee do I put in a 32 oz French press?

In standard kitchen measurements, a large mug of coffee (16 oz of water) requires 6 Tbsp of ground coffee for a 1:15 ratio, 8 Tbsp for a strong 1:12 ratio, and 5 Tbsp for a weak 1:17 ratio. Most French presses are 32 oz, which means 12 Tbsp of ground coffee at regular strength.
