Volunteer Support Program

The MHA of GA Internship Program introduces students to the important role we play in ensuring a productive life in the community for everyone. Interns gain practical experience through projects, special assignments, or research that support state and community-based programs, policies, and best practices in the prevention, early intervention, and treatment of mental illness.

Gain Experience

The MHA of GA Internship Program allows students to use their specific skills and knowledge while experiencing the value of their education. Interns work 15-20 hours a week for at least one year at our office in Atlanta on meaningful projects, gaining real-life exposure to areas aligned with their course of study.

Because MHA of Georgia is a small organization, the student will get exposure to many opportunities that will enhance his/her understanding and knowledge of mental health as related to program coordination.

The successful candidate will report to the Director of Operations. He/she must be able to multi-task, be detail-oriented, have excellent communication skills – both written and oral, and be organized. Further, he/she must take initiative, be a self-starter, and produce quality work. He/She must be able to work independently in a group setting. He/She must have reliable transportation for occasional work duties.

Hours are flexible, but preference will be given to those candidates who can work 15-20 hours/week. Candidates available for a full year or longer are also preferred.

Below is a list of available internships for the academic year

Volunteer Support Program

Mental Health America of Georgia depends on supporters who share our mission to enhance the mental health of all Georgians through outreach, education, and advocacy. Our Volunteer Support Program was designed to create an opportunity between our supporters and MHA of GA to advance the mission of the organization as well as continue to create compassionate communities from within the organization. As a small non-profit, MHA of GA depends on the support of individuals who can use their talents and efforts to help support our administrative and programmatic teams.

Give Your Time and Talent

Volunteer opportunities include working directly with clients in horticulture, art, music, exercise and fitness, or other areas of interest.

Generally, we ask that volunteers be 18 or older and commit to a minimum of three months of service. To protect the health and safety of our clients, all volunteers will be asked to complete a criminal background check and a TB screening test. All on-campus volunteers must be fully vaccinated for Covid-19 and receive the annual CDC-approved seasonal influenza vaccine. Please also note that all Skyland Trail campuses are nicotine-free.
