Apple allows its users to make purchases on App Store and iTunes using Apple Pay, PayPal and popular Credit Card services like Visa, MasterCard, AMEX and others.

Once Credit Card or PayPal information is provided to Apple during a purchase, it automatically gets linked to your Apple ID, which makes it easy to make purchases on the App Store.

If your Payment information changes, you can Edit or Remove the Payment information linked to your Apple ID by going to Settings on iPhone or iPad and by going to the App Store on Mac.

Note: Once your Credit Card information is removed, you won’t be able to make purchases from iTunes and App Store.

1. Remove Credit Card from iPhone

Follow the steps below to edit or remove your Credit Card information from iPhone or iPad.

1. Open Settings > tap on your Apple ID > Payment & Shipping > On the next screen, select the Credit Card that you want to remove.

2. On the next screen, tap on Edit > scroll down and tap on the Delete option.

Note: You won’t be able to change or remove your Payment Information, if you have an unpaid balance or an upcoming due payment.

2. Remove Credit Card from Mac

Follow these steps, in case you want to remove payment information from iTunes on a computer.

1. Open the App Store on your Mac > Click on your Name or the Sign-in button located at bottom left corner.

2. If prompted, sign-in to App Store using your Apple ID and Passcode. Once you are Signed-in, click on your Profile Icon (bottom-left) and select View Information option.

3. On Account Information screen, click on Manage Payments option listed in “Apple ID Summary” section.

4. On the next screen, select the Edit option located next to your Payment Method and then click on Remove.

This should remove your Credit Card Information from your Apple ID.

Your iPhone makes it easy to add and remove payment methods, so you’re always in control of how you pay for your purchases. If you no longer use a particular payment method, here’s how to remove it from your iPhone.

You Can’t Always Delete a Payment Method

If you only have one payment method on your iPhone, you must not match any of the following circumstances. If you do, you can’t remove your payment method.

  • You have an active subscription, including an iCloud+ subscription.
  • You’re the family organizer in a Family Sharing group.
  • You have an unpaid balance in your account.

Once you ensure you don’t have any of the above items active on your phone, or you add another payment method, you can proceed to remove the payment method.

Delete a Payment Method on iPhone

To start the payment method removal process, launch Settings on your iPhone.

At the top of Settings, tap your name.

You’ll see an “Apple ID” screen. Here, tap the “Payment & Shipping” option. Your iPhone will then ask you to authenticate yourself using Face ID or Touch ID.

The “Payment & Shipping” page that opens will display all your payment methods on file. To delete a method, tap that method on the list.

At the bottom of the payment method page, tap “Remove Payment Method.”

Tap “Remove” in the prompt to confirm your choice.

And your iPhone will delete the selected way of making payments. You’re all set.

Later, if you want to add a new payment method, you can do so from the “Payment & Shipping” page.
