Yum! I didn’t have any baking soda 🤦🏻‍♀️ So I subbed 2 tsp of baking powder and baked at 350°F for 15-18 minutes. Then I promptly poured myself a glass of milk and tried not to eat a dozen. 😊

Martha Stewart usually never fails me so I didn’t check reviews closely enough. This cookie recipe is not one I would do again. Something is definitely off. I followed recipe as written, however dough was very sticky, cookies need much longer to cook and taste more cakey than a cookie. Mad I didn’t stick with my usual recipe.

I live in Northern Ontario Canada. Made this recipe with just over a cup of chocolate chips as I found 2 cups to be to much. They came out great! Perfect crunch on the outside, soft and chewy middle, on the perfect side of golden colour. Fantastic! Definitely had to leave them one minute extra in the oven.

I found this recipe while living in the east coast and loved the texture and taste. I moved to the Caribbean, and tried it, but they came out looking like a biscuit and the texture was more like cake. Can someone help me modify this recipe to be done in the Caribbean?

I've been through so many chocolate chip cookie recipes trying to find this recipe and FINALLY!!! Thank you Martha!!! Idk what everyone else did wrong... I Don't have a mixer so I had to whisk it really good... Worth the sweat... I also cut down on the salt and baking soda by 1/2 tsp... The consistency scared me a bit but I did NOT want a cakey cookie... My 7 month pregnant self is very pleased!!!

Our cookies turned out great. We did err on the side of more flour and a little more baking soda hoping that would keep them from being too flat. We also chilled the dough in the refrigerator for about 30 min as well.

Cookies turned out to be a big blob of liquid oil, didn't cook until the 40-minute mark. WAY too much choco chips, 1 cup would have been enough, that's a lot coming from me. Trying again in a thicker pan, working better so far.

I followed the recipe exactly. The cookies spread too much and were flat. I would suggest one or all of the following: Chill the dough, change the oven temp to 325, and let the cookies cool on baking sheet 4 minutes. I will not make this recipe again. I usually read the reviews before I try a new recipe. Shame on me for not doing that this time!

I’ve been making this recipe for about 6 months. I never really rate recipes because I think of it as a waste of time. But this recipe is just so good! My family is obsessed with chocolate chip cookies 🍪 and I’ve been experimenting with millions of recipes. I’ve always thought it’s boring to stick to one recipe, but this is my permanent recipe. I sometimes cut out the sugar, strangely, it tastes amazing that way! I usually skip the part about leaving it in a container for a week (my family eats it up right Away! 😄) my family likes more cookie-dough type cookies (gooey) so we totally skip that step. And they’re just so good you eat them right away! I never buy in-salted butter so I just use salted butter and cut down on the salt (turns out great still!) all in all, this recipe is absolutely the best I’ve ever come across in years of making cookies. Ive never loved a cookie better! :-)

This recipe turned out exactly how I hoped. The outside was a little crispy and the inside was soft and chewy! My butter was a little too soft, so I put the dough into the fridge for about 30 minutes before adding the chocolate chips. Other than that, I followed the recipe exactly. They don't spread out too much on the pan, so you can actually put them a little closer together than regular cookies. They taste great too!

It wasn't quite what we were expecting. After a healthful dinner of kale and quinoa, my sister and I decided to indulge in the decadence of chocolate chip cookies, trusting only Martha herself to direct our baking. We used the correct measurements but melted the butter for a bit too long. We thought, "This is no problem, our fearless, wise teacher will not fail us." We were gravely mistaken. Our dough has the consistency of batter and stuck to our fingers like some ungodly things I don't want to mention on such a pristine website. Our cookies took hours to bake (figuratively of course) as we waited in anticipation to see what masterpiece we had created. Upon opening the oven, we discovered that our cookies had merged into a colossal flat cookie! We broke it into chunks and mixed it with ice cream and voil la! We realized that Martha had not led us astray, but took us on another journey we had not expected. All hail Martha.

These cookies are my go-to chocolate chip cookies. Definitely the right balance between chewy and crispy. I don't know why there are negative comments on this recipe. I do know that you have to be careful that you're using 2 STICKS, not 2 cups of butter. (2 sticks= 1cup). Also, some people don't know what creaming butter means. It does take a good 4-5 minutes of beating to get it creamed properly- this lends the cookie the spread and the chewiness it needs. I wonder if the person with a cakey texture to the cookie used baking powder instead of baking soda. Baking powder makes things puff up- baking soda makes them spread. Make sure you're using the right thing! I almost always have great results with Martha recipes, and I follow the recipes to a T.

I would give this the full 5 stars except that I had to make adjustments. When made as directed, the cookies run together and come out all flat. if you don't want cookies that spread so thin, replace the 2 + 1/4 cup flour with 2 + 3/4 flour instead - it's probably too little flour in this recipe that's causing it to spread.

First of all Martha ya munted for thinking these cookies would be an actual success, mine came out of the oven looking a mother f**king doner kebab. They were flatter than a pre-pubescent boys chest, and so buttery I have been barking like a mother f**ckung bear who woke up too early from hibernation. My esophagus is so clogged it feels like I've been smoking a pack of twenty every bloody hour. I'm not usually this salty, but I feel as if the butter has seeped into my actual arteries. The the best cookie I have ever made. In fact, maybe the best I've ever tried. I made an account just to type this comment to let everyone know how easy and absolutely delicious these cookies are! I am vegan and used semi-sweet chocolate chips, replaced each egg with about 1/3 cup of applesauce, used vegan butter spread for the butter, and for fun added a little dash of almond extract and they were delicious! Made them a few days ago and going back to make me right now!

Great recipe. I don't have a electric mixer so I just mixed by hand. I mixed the butter and both the sugars until the mixture was soft (it still had bits of solid sugar in it though), I then added the vanilla (mine was powdered vanilla), salt and three eggs (my eggs were small). I mixed it until it was soft (this time i could see less bits of sugar). I added the flour-baking soda mixture in by small portions and mixed until it was well combined. Unlike the recipe, I didn't preheat my oven. I left it on for about 5 mins before putting in the first batch of cookies. I left them cook for 14 mins in total before taking them out and letting them cool completely on the baking tray. I expected the second batch to take less time in the oven but it actually took more (since they were bigger than the first batch), they were in the oven for around 17-19 mins then I took them out and left them cool. I made 28 cookies in total (you'd probably make more if you used an icecream scoop to have them the same size). They're fantastic, a bit too sweet for my taste but great nonetheless. The edge was crispy and the middle was soft and chewy!

It comes out as it is written here. They turned out great!!! Just make sure you follow directions and while the mixer is spinning in slow speed, place the flour slowly with the s[filtered]. That is one idea. Or stop the mixer and do half and half while you make it stir. That is all. Someone here was asking if they can be made vegan while chewy...i will try to figure it out and see what i can come up with. I would say, just play with ingredients. Most of chocolate chip cookies nowadays are new creations in the hands of the baker.

Hello, is that a 1/2 oz or a 1 oz ice cream scoop that you are using for cookies?

What is the secret to making cookies soft?

Baking cookies quickly in a hot oven – at 375 degrees F as opposed to a lower temperature – will make for soft results. They'll bake fast instead of sitting and drying out in the oven's hot air. Ever so slightly underbaking your cookies will give you softer results than cooking them the full amount the recipe says.
You can also melt a little bit of butter, add brown sugar to it, and incorporate that into your dough if you want an extra tender cookie.

What makes cookies hard or soft?

Butter contributes milk solids and water to a cookie, both of which soften it. Brown sugar contributes molasses – again, a softener. Using lower-moisture sugar (granulated) and fat (vegetable shortening), plus a longer, slower bake than normal, produces light, crunchy cookies.

How do you make chewy cookies soft?

Cornstarch helps product soft and thick cookies. Using more brown sugar than white sugar results in a moister, softer cookie. An extra egg yolk increases chewiness. Rolling the cookie dough balls to be tall and lumpy instead of wide and smooth gives the cookies a bakery-style textured thickness.
