Almost Completely TerribleHBK2014 , COUPLES Sep 17, 2022 The only thing that wasn’t terrible was the location, but with several other hotels close by, you can still get the location without subjecting yourself to this crowded, dirty, outrageously expensive, tourist trap of a sketchy roadside EconoLodge with a Four Seasons price tag. I am mystified by the good reviews posted here, and I think they must have stayed at a different hotel than the one we suffered through. Hard to believe we took a 4,000 mile trip to Hawaii’s paradise only to be dying to go home. Many others have detailed the crowds, the badly needed updating, so I won’t belabor them here, though it’s all true. I’ll add that while the grounds are well cared for, the interiors are dirty. Our hallway had used Qtips, dental floss, packaging, and etc littered throughout the entire stay. The shower was full of hair. One of our “clean” towels was covered in black marks of dirt/filth; no way this had gone through a normal wash cycle let alone the bleach and strong detergent that should have happened. We stood in line for check in for almost an hour-no joke; and shockingly, the “general” check in like moved faster than the Hilton Honors member line-where is the sense in that? Every night we were here we saw the same crowds of people standing helplessly in line with their luggage. The food is ghastly and outrageously expensive (even by Hawaii standards); for example, a bowl of lettuce for $18. We eventually learned to go off the property any time we wanted to eat. Our “oceanfront” room was a joke-if you leaned way out over the balcony you could see a sliver of the water way off to the side. There was no desk to work at in the room, hardly ideal when we both had to work! I ended up sitting on the bed with my computer, my husband on the floor. The construction/repair going on in the room next door meant we listened to drilling and pounding all day long. A small thing, but you couldn’t see the TV from the bed, only from the cardboard couch on the other side of the room. Speaking of the bed, there were no sheets. I repeat, no sheets. The comforter was encased in a “sheet” instead, I guess for housekeeping’s convenience, and we fought every morning to get untangled from it. The entire property was overrun by young children running around and screaming, like a Chuck E Cheese hell on every side. Oh, and supposedly, Hawaii law prohibits smoking on the property except in the designated area, but tell that to the cigarette, cigar, and vape smokers everywhere. Would never, ever, ever, EVER stay here again. Shame on you, Hilton. Has a heap of redeeming features but many shortcomings. Please note although it seems a negative review I want people to know the shortcomings of this place to avoid expectations not being met. Arrived early (8am ish) from Australia. Bell desk were friendly and were quick to take our luggage and store. It was frowned upon to simply ask if we could complete check in, being there was a very small line up. We didn't expect our rooms to be ready, however a little common sense would help negate the huge problems faced later in the day. There is an expectation that you do a pre check in at 12:30pm. This has you lining up for the good part of an hour, to simply do what we could have done at 8:30am as previously mentioned. Upon finally arriving at the desk, we were underwhelmed with the lack of enthusiasm by the check in staff. To be fair they were borderline rude and seemed to be all about procedure. It was almost as if they were annoyed at having to do their job and communicate. Finally all done, we were told to return at 4pm to collect our key. One of rooms was ready, the other still not. A towel rail issue the hold up. We said can someone come and fix after check in so we could get settled? It was agreed and we had both rooms, just after 4pm. Side note the towel rail was never fixed. The resort itself is nice enough. We wanted a nice resort for our kids to explore after a tough couple of years, so this was a perfect fit on paper, as much of Waikiki is high rise with small pools at the bottom, with little or no gardens. Having been to Waikiki six times and I can certainly say the costs have increased significantly since our last visit. This resort is no different and is making up for lost time it would seem. A price increase is understood and welcomed but it seems far greater than most other places. We found a pool towards the front of the resort near the beach which was perfect for our kids. We thought we would take a seat at the bar/ restaurant to keep an eye on them and have a drink in the meantime. We kept getting watched and warned that we needed to keep ordering drinks and food to be able to sit there. There was constant check ins and we felt pressured into spending cash to simply sit in the shade at a resort we were already paying good money to stay at. This speaks volumes to the over crowding and lack of seating areas within the resort. It's near impossible to get a deck chair by the pool and there is little else in the way of seating unless you are spending dollars at the bars or restaurants. The beach.....is nice albeit again overcrowded. The costs to hire chairs and umbrellas is out of this world and should be free. The staff looking after this area are young arrogant surfer dudes, who should be ashamed of the way they speak to the hotel guests. Witnessed this three times. Most of the onsite food options are overpriced. You expect onsite to be more, which I get, but this place takes it to new levels. If you are going to expect guests to pay for almost every small extra (beach chairs etc), drop the resort fee. Double dipping much? I do like the location, but again it sort of forces you to spend onsite rather than spending less and getting better meals etc elsewhere is Waikiki. If you get really warm weather being prepared for a sweaty walk to Kalakaua avenue for shopping and off site dining. If you want your photos to look good, like line ups, paying for extras, almost no room service and mediocre service from 70% of staff then this is the place for you. Wifi is a little patchy. Can do better than this place and although not all doom and gloom, we likely wouldn't return. To be honest it's that busy and I'd assume profitable that they probably don't see a need to improve the guest experience. The accommodations, service and amenities are at there highest grade, including a private pool and fitness center.

Does the Hilton Hawaiian Village still have penguins?Sad to read that the penguins are gone. Always enjoyed seeing them in the many visits over the years. Our last was May 2013.
How deep is the lagoon at Hilton Hawaiian Village?The lagoon is about 8 foot deep in the middle at high tide and has various fish in it. There are no waves in the lagoon.
