Facebook account hacked email and phone changed 2022 reddit

Hello everyone! So I know Facebook support is absolutely horrible and unfortunately not everyone is able to gain back access to their accounts after being hacked. However, I wanted to share what happened to me because I thought it may be helpful to others going through a similar experience, and maybe it can give you guys some hope.

A little over two weeks ago I woke up to an email from Facebook that someone tried to login into my Facebook account from somewhere new. There were two other emails sent shorty afterwards which was a security code and then an email telling me that my password was changed. These emails were sent in the middle of the night when I was sleeping, so by the time I had saw it, the password had already been changed 10 hours ago. I immediately tried to login and indicated that my account had been hacked, but when they went to send me a new security code, it was sent to the hackers email.

At this point I had also called a friend and asked them if they saw anything weird on my account, but they told me that nothing looked unusual. I tried to request a new security code again and then clicked on the option that said I didn't have access to the email they were sending it to, but the code was still sent to the wrong email. After this second code was sent, my friend, who was still on my Facebook page, informed me that all of the sudden my page had disappeared. I'm not really sure what happened, but I can only assume that the hacker saw the notifications and decided to either delete or deactivate my account.

After this I kept trying to request a new code and send it to a different email address, but for some reason when I tried typing in the original email address I had used for my Facebook account, it just brought me back to the start. I decided to then try a different email address I have, and after typing it in, it brought me to a new option finally, where I could confirm my identity by sending in some type of ID. I was skeptical at first, but after reading some posts on here, I thought I would give it a try, and I sent in my drivers license. Then, I just waited.

I didn't hear back from Facebook for almost 2 weeks. I submitted my ID on May 2nd, and it was now May 14th. By then I was just growing impatient so I decided to try the process again. While signing in, a security code was still sent to the hackers email, but after that it finally let me type in a different email address and I used the same one I used the first time I submitted my ID (so not my original email associated to the account!). Within 20 minutes I had an email from Facebook that thanked me for confirming my identity and included a link to reset my password.

Surprise, surprise, this link did not work, but the great news was that the new email I provided was added to my Facebook account, so it said that I could reset my password in the future. From here on I just kept trying to log in using my newly added email and clicking on the option that said forgot password. I was sent recovery codes every time I requested (it also was sending these codes to the hackers email), but no matter what I did, when I got to the point where it let me enter a new password it told me "You can't use this feature right now". Over and over again this comment came up.

Finally today I tried to give it another go (May 19th). After creating a new password yet again, it brought me to the Two-Factor Authentication, and asked me to enter the 6 -digit code from my code generator or 3rd party app. Now I never set up the Two-Factor Authentication, so I had no idea where these codes were being sent. I didn't bother with it and instead I clicked on the option below it that says "Need another way to authenticate?" It then asked me for my email again, and asked for me to submit my ID another time. I did this and got a response from Facebook in less than 10 minutes. They gave me a link to finish my account recovery process, but they also gave me a code that I could use as my password. I went with this second option because I didn't trust the link, and it worked!! I was then brought into my account, which was locked, and had go through some steps to unlock it.

After that it was pretty easy, which was really shocking to me! I needed to confirm the email I wanted to keep to my account and delete the hackers email. I also had to identify some friends profiles and had to change my password before it was unlocked fully. Once I was in I made sure everything looked okay and set up the Two-Factor Authentication for real this time!

I'm sorry this was so long but I wanted to make sure I included everything that I went through. I know everyone's experience is going to be a little different, but I really do hope this was helpful in some way! If anyone has any questions or isn't clear about something I said, I will try my best to help!! I wish the best of luck if you are struggling to get your account back. Don't give up! Be persistent! There still might be hope!
