Denton day of the dead 2022

Kids show off their costumes during Denton's Day of the Dead Festival.

Celebrate the fall season, Dia de Los Muertos and all things Halloween at a free, family-friendly fest that takes place at East Hickory and Industrial streets in downtown Denton. Costumes are encouraged. Activities include a kids pumpkin patch and haunted house, fall crafts, the popular Coffin Races and lantern-lit twilight parade.

All activities are free except for performances of the original Halloween musical Cirque du Horror, which cost $15-$25 per ticket.

Event Type:

Held outside on Hickory and Industrial St, Denton’s Day of the Dead Festival captures the very essence of Denton’s artistic spirit: a true collaboration of the eclectic art and music community that only the northernmost tip of the golden triangle can provide. As is the artistic scene in this ever growing “little” town, Denton’s DOD Festival is a wonderful smorgasbord, paying homage to many of fall’s treasures such as cooler weather, the harvest, the celebration of Dia de los Muertos, and all things Halloween. It harkens to an earlier, simpler time, when communities gathered outdoors to celebrate life through song and dance, good food and drink, and camaraderie. Denton’s Day of the Dead Fest includes Denton’s original Halloween Cabaret Cirque du Horror, as well as Denton’s very own coffin races and a lantern-lit twilight parade all help make this event truly magical. The Twilight & Costume Parade will line up at 6pm on Oct. 26 at Austin & E. Hickory streets. Join us with illuminated lanterns, glowing costumes, and blinking bikes. Bring your decorated cars, trucks, and floats. Slap some lights on a musical instrument or a drum and march. The parade ends at Oakland and E. Hickory Street, where you can dance to the last band of the night or get your tickets to Cirque du Horror. Cirque du Horror is appropriate for the entire family. Tickets available at cirqueduhorror.com/shows Take your kids on a stroll through the pumpkin patch, where you’ll find a variety of carnival games, craft projects, a bounce house, puppet theater. Costumes encouraged. Open from 11am–4:30pm. Free. A haunted house down the street in The Point Bank Black Box Theatre is designed, constructed and run by the students from the Denton High School Theatre Department. Open from noon–9pm. Free. Enter the costume contests for a chance to receive a hand-painted Denton’s Day of Dead trophy. Contestants must register online by noon the Friday before the event. For more information, email .
