This roast is so flavorful and EASY to make. I found the recipe years ago in my grandma’s recipe box and made a copy for myself. Her recipe was titled “Swiss Steak”, but isn’t like any Swiss steak recipe that I’ve seen before (doesn’t have tomatoes, etc.). I like it BETTER. Our favorite way to enjoy it is over rice or mashed potatoes. You could also serve it with egg noodles.

  • 2-3 lb. roast (chuck, round, etc.)*
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 envelope onion soup mix
  • 1/2 cup water

*It really doesn’t matter what kind of roast that you use. An inexpensive cut works just fine because it’s cooking low and slow and will be juicy no matter what.

Place roast in slow cooker.

Add cream of mushroom soup and onion soup mix.

Add water.

Cook on HIGH for 5-6 hours or LOW for 8-10 hours.

Serve over rice or mashed potatoes.

  • 2 lbs. roast chuck, round, etc.
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup

  • Shred meat and stir.
