The sixth season of Riverdale has taken fans to a parallel universe with the five-episode event “Rivervale” and gave the gang superpowers in order to fight the biggest villain they have ever faced, Percival Pickens. The season also includes two guest appearances from Kiernan Shipka, who reprises her role as Sabrina Spellman from the Netflix series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Seasons 1-5 of Riverdale are currently streaming on Netflix, with season 6 available Sunday, August 7. The final episodes of the season air Sundays at 8 p.m. EST on The CW! If it feels like Riverdale season 6 has been airing forever on The CW, that’s because it has been. Since the start of the COVID pandemic, the network’s schedule has been all over the place. We’re glad they’ve been taking precautions to keep their casts and crews safe as they should. Doing so has made for an incredibly stretched line-up which, of course, has caused delays in CW shows hitting streamers. Shorter seasons did help with this for some of the network’s series, but their more popular shows like The Flash and Superman and Lois didn’t stay to the 13-episode maximum that other series had to adhere to. Riverdale, clearly, is among the ranks of those that got to bypass that maximum. Though, personally, I can’t say that’s helped its story any. We’ve been making our way through season 6 since fall 2021 when the “Rivervale” five-episode event introduced us to an alternate universe full of mysteries and an increasingly staggering body count. Viewers have since been dropped back in the town with Pop’s that we know and begrudgingly love and things have only gotten even more weird. While I won’t spoil the main story being worked through in Riverdale season 6, I can say that Cheryl’s errant spell at the end of season 5 truly did a number on this season’s plot.
