message 5: by [deleted user] (new) Prisoner of Azkaban is great because of Sirius and Goblet of Fire is frigging awesome but... Damn, I love Chamber of Secrets. It was my first Harry Potter movie and I used to read it non-stop because it was the only HP I had.

Prisoner of Azkaban has the best plot twist of all the novels by far. Lupin is also amazing in it, as he begins to introduce Harry to complex spells for the first time. Every similar list I have ever read all have Prisoner of Azkaban as the most highly regarded book of the series, different strokes for different folks.

In Goblet of Fire, Harry's starting to really become a wizard and use some actual combat magic, as well as understand more about his destiny, even though he won't hear the prophecy until the end of book 5. The plot is gripping, a trial by fire that turns a boy into a man; the wizarding world growing in depth and scope, and the tension is pulled to the breaking point, with Harry finally coming up against death and more importantly, Voldemort in the flesh at last. Prisoner of Azkaban is just so much fun, really the classic Potter novel that has a little of it all, the darkness, humor, poignancy, loss, betrayal, friendship--all the classic themes we've come to expect from the series. Half-Blood Prince is the penultimate installment that sets things up beautifully for the epic conclusion we know is to come, with stark revelations about Voldemort, Malfoy, and Snape, as well as the solidifying of Dumbledore's relationship with Harry, and likewise Harry's loyalty to Dumbledore. It also ensured every reader's hatred of Snape going into the last book, therefore making the final reveal all the greater. After those three, I would have to say 5, then 7, but really, depending on the day and my mood it could be the other way around. Order of the Phoenix shows slow-burn storytelling at it's finest, with lots of new places like St. Mungo's and the Ministry filling out JK's phenomenal world building, as well as refreshing and nuanced characters like Luna and Umbridge popping up everywhere. This was the book that gave us a glimpse of the battle lines that would be solidified the the 6th novel, and it showed us the suffering of war, both silent like the cold war, and out and out bloodshed with the first heartwrenching death of the series. Deathly Hallows is also a slow-burner, and I'm so glad it is. People complain about the middle portion being large and tiresome, but I think that's quite the point. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither was the defeat of Voldemort accomplished overnight and without suffering and much character growth. Harry, Ron, and Hermione needed the gauntlet of that year on the run to solidity their friendship and loyalties, and to prepare Harry for the death he didn't know was coming. As a sidenote, this book contains my absolute favorite chapter of the series--The Prince's Tale. The depth of that character astounds me. How JK managed to write a seven part saga about love, loyalty, friendship, loss, tragedy, strength , heroism, villainy, war, betrayal, and sacrifice, I'll never know, and even more importantly, she wrote it for children, yet transcended it for all ages. Nothing shows that depth of writing more than that chapter. The last two on my list are 1, then 2. While they're both magical, and we would have neither the brilliant saga, nor half the magical plot devices in the latter books without them, these two were the hook--the childen's books to invest young readers in a story that JK knew was going to grow too large and sprawling in scope to attract young readers unless they were invested by a gentle introduction. These books still contain exemplary writing and great themes, but the magnificence doesn't truly enter the story until book three. Really, they're all fantastic and nearly impossible to rank. The series as a whole is as near to flawless as writing gets. JK never shies away from loss and tragedy, nor does she write down to her target audience. Instead, she was brave enough to challenge young readers to grow and broaden their minds alongside Harry and his quest, and she succeeded marvelously. Honestly, when read through and well-loved, it doesn't feel like seven books, but like one winding, spiraling story which you can't predict until the very end. 1)

2 4 7 6 1 5 I’ve never honestly enjoyed reading the Order of the Phoenix all the times I’ve reread the series. It just never clicked with me as much. On the other hand I’ve honestly read the Prisoner of Azkaban more than the others. It’s just so captivating and I like the introduction of future characters of importance like Lupin and Sirius. It’s when, I feel, Harry starts to become a true wizard and we see the power he possesses with being able to produce a full patronus.

7 I liked the cap and everything tat happened 2 i liked the dark sphere who just grips you 1 My friend recommended HP i never even had heard of it before but i read it and of the first page a magical feeling grip me. 4 Ok book well thought and the its stars getting darker of now on 6 Great break of adventure and start of the mystery getting solved it's more a bridge between book 5 and 7 5 Liked it but HP it's hard to deside what i put where 3 I didn't even manage to reread it and after 280 pages i stopped while the other HP books i read 5 times

I didn't care for book one much either , but the story started getting juicy with book two . I have read book 6 twice .
