They are well made, truly heavy duty and perform as required. Gates get more use and need a durable hinge. You will not be disappointed with these. I had hoped to modify them somehow to work on pipe livestock gates, but that is beyond my skill level. The included screws are beefy self-tapping so I used wood screws instead. They are on a wooden gate to an arbor keeping the deer out of our landscaping, so it is really nice that the gate stays tightly closed even when we don't latch it. Set on high tension, these hinges are actually strong enough to make the latch catch on its own. They are easy to install and the covers over the screws make everything look neat. The tension adjustment is a big flat screw head at the top so can be adjusted without taking the covers off. by

The Tru-Close 4" heavy duty spring hinges are, in my view, the standard for metal fence gates. I've got a mix of regular-duty hinges on two 3-foot gates and the heavy-duty hinges on a 6-foot aluminum gate, I'm pretty sure I didn't even need to go with the heavy-duty set for the 6-foot gate (but it never hurts). The set of 2 hinges comes complete with everything you need. The plastic screw covers snap into place and are a nice touch for giving it a finished look. by

How do you make a metal gate Self closing?You certainly don't need to replace the gate to make it self-closing. All you need to do is buy a gate spring, mount it to the gate's hinged side and the frame, then place the spring under torque. Your metal gate's hinges will be attached to the opening in the wall, which may be wrought-iron or block.
How do you put a spring on a gate?Just remove a screw from the hinge, place the gate spring in place, and re-screw. You may need to drill an extra hole through your hinge for the second screw. Attach the bottom of the spring to the fence post. Place rivet supplied into bottom of gate spring.
