Savage model 20 rifle for sale

I was recently given a savage model 20 bolt action rifle. The ONLY thing stamped on the weapon is "Savage model 20" & serial # "119XX". I have no idea what caliber this rifle is. It has a heavy octagon barrel, rear sights that are adjustable for windage and elevation. Web searches have turned up nothing. Is this rifle rare or worth much? Any help would be great.

I've also never hear of a model 20, I would look for a savage collector site, maybe the three collectors in the US have found each other 😉 Sorry, I just don't think I've even seen a Savage group at the NRA convention in collectors row. With a heavy octagon (or hexagon) this leads me to believe it's an older rifle, any clue as to it's age or a photo?

hello,,savage made a model 1920 bolt action rifle but it was chambered for centerfire cartridges ,,is this a centerfire or a rim fire rifle ???,,that should be fairly easy to tell by looking at the bolt and where the fireing pin is located ,,not sure if they ever had octagon barrels though,, made from 1920-31

Savage model 20 never made a hex or octagon barrel. They made the gun in 250-3000 with 20 inch round barrel and they made the same gun in a 300 savage calibre with 22 inch barrel and the made them from 1920 to 1926.

Are you serious??? three collectors in USA.. Savage collectors are almost as many as winchester collectors and savage was a better gun.

regarding savage model 20. This is a beautiful bolt action rifle made in 20,s in 250-3000 caliber with 20 in barrel and in 300 cal with 22 inc barrel. Rare and a wonderful little gun. I have one of each which would never part with.

I know this is an old thread. but I am the original poster. Still have the rifle and still wondering about its potential worth. I have heard the sights alone are quite valuable.

If the rifle has an octagon barrel, then it's either a unique special order rifle (almost certainly not if it's not stamped with the chambering), or a rebarrel. As a rebarrel, it's value is as a shooter or a parts gun - if you can figure out the chambering. A smith should be able to cast the chamber and figure out the cartridge for not too much money - $50 maybe? As far as parts, depending on condition the stock, receiver and sights might be good for several hundred dollars.
