Poison idea the beast goes east

Long ago, before the dark ages of worldwide pandemics and all they entail, I made the acquaintance of the head honcho at TKO Records, Mark Rainey. Due to his label being on a never-ending campaign to get any and all material of Poison Idea out to the public, I told him about a soundboard tape in my possession of the band playing live at my hometown punk rock dump City Gardens from the spring of 1990. With Rainey’s interest piqued, I dug and dug in the catacombs under my dwelling to find out the tape had vanished, lost to time or perhaps some sticky-fingered friend.

Luckily, long time pal and former City Gardens deejay and This ‘Zine Sucks editor Rob Conrad held onto the OG copy of the cassette that he placed into the deck prior to the kings of punk’s performance and was willing to send it off to TKO HQ to see if it cut the type of mustard gas that would warrant it being an official entry in the labels’ Poison Idea crusade. Once both Mark and Jerry A gave the tape a listen, it was made official that the tape would be pressed onto vinyl and see the light of day on TKO as The Beast Goes East. Since I was there to witness the gig, I offered my services to write the liner notes and Mark agreed.

In return for tracking down the tape and my writing services, Mark offered to press up 50 extra copies of the record and send them to me. “Do whatever the hell ya want with ‘em!” he said.

So, this is what the hell I’m doing with them…

POISON IDEA - The Beast Comes East LP (No Idols .50)
The kings of punk recorded live and straight off the soundboard at City Gardens in Trenton NJ on 5/6/90.

What differentiates The Beast Comes East from the recently released The Beast Goes East on TKO Records?

I'm glad you asked...

Although it contains the same audio, this version comes in a hand-done wrap-around cover ala ESP-Disk. It also comes with a 4-page 'zine consisting of interviews with Jerry A and Aldine Strychnine about Poison Idea's Spring 1990 tour of the east coast. Also thrown in is a repro of the flyer for P.I's ABC No Rio gig from the tour as well as Pig Champion stickers and P.I. postcards. All records have hand-stamped labels and are pressed on black vinyl.

Again, there will only be 50 COPIES of this thing. Once they are gone, they are gone. My goal is whatever money raised from its selling can go into making No Idols a real-deal label. Please help out if you can while adding a rarity to your collection and/or Discogs seller listings.

Media mail shipping is added to the cost of the record for U.S orders. Anyone outside of the U.S interested in buying a copy, please message me first so we can work out shipping costs. Orders begin shipping next Friday, November 26, 2021.

Thanks to Rob Conrad, Mark Rainey, Ken Salerno, Jerry, Aldine, Cooch, and Brett Beach for their assistance. Putting this thing together took my mind off all the other crapola I had to deal with this year and I am grateful to all of you for helping out.

You can order The Beast Comes East from my No Idols Big Cartelpage. And of course, if there’s anything else featured on the page you wanna snag, please feel free to order that as well.

Thanks!
