HOW TO APPLY FOR A PASSPORT: Passport applications are accepted at over 9,000 facilities in the United States, including courthouses, libraries, municipal offices and local post offices. Minors under age 16 need to apply in person with one or both parents or the child’s legal guardian(s). Application forms can be downloaded at the Bureau of Consular Affairs website: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html

Passports are routinely processed and sent to applicants within 6 weeks. Passports can be expedited within 3 weeks door-to-door with an additional fee, or expedited at Agency within 8 business days (Based on need, restrictions apply).

TO OBTAIN A PASSPORT WITHIN TWO WEEKS: Applicants who need a passport within two weeks (or within four weeks to obtain a foreign visa) can make an appointment at the Connecticut Passport Agency, 850 Canal Street, Stamford. HOW TO RENEW A PASSPORT: Applicants can renew passports in person or by mail. You can choose to renew by mail if you already have a passport that is not damaged and can be submitted with your application, have received the passport within the past 15 years, were over age 16 when the passport was issued, and still have the same name as in the passport or legal documentation of a name change. To obtain a passport by mail:

  • Complete an Application for Passport by Mail (Form DS-82);
  • Attach your most recent passport book and/or card, a color photograph (taken within the last six months) and 2X2 inches in size, and fees;
  • Enclose a certified copy of a legal document such as a marriage certificate or court order showing the change of name, if you have changed your name (no photocopies accepted); and
  • Mail in a padded envelope to: National Passport Processing Center, P.O. Box 90155, Philadelphia, PA 19190-0155.
  • For expedited applications, mail to: National Passport Processing Center, P.O. Box 90955, Philadelphia, PA 19190-0955.

If your passport has been altered, damaged or mutilated, you must apply in person. U.S. residents abroad should renew their passports at the nearest U.S. Consulate or Embassy.

Where do I send my passport application in Philadelphia?

Mail your passport package to: National Passport Processing Center, Post Office Box 90155, Philadelphia, PA 19190-0155. You have to mail your documents through the United States Postal Service (USPS). Private companies, like UPS and FedEx are not able to deliver these documents to the post office box listed.

What type of envelope should I mail my passport renewal in?

All Acceptance Facilities must use USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate envelopes (EP14F) OR USPS Priority Mail Express Flat Rate envelopes (EP13F) when mailing passport applications to the Department of State. No other form of trackable mail will be allowed for mailing passport applications.

Can I mail my passport renewal in a regular envelope?

Use an envelope large enough to fit the application without folding it. USPS Priority Mail Express® and Priority Mail® services both provide free envelopes large enough to hold your application. Include your application form, supporting documentation, current passport, passport photo and payment.

How do I expedite my passport in Philadelphia?

Pay the $60 expedite fee in addition to the regular application fees. Note: your appointment must be within 14 calendar days of your international travel. If you need a foreign visa, the date of your appointment must be within 28 calendar days of your international travel.
