Gisteravond werd namelijk bekendgemaakt dat Call of Duty Black Ops 2 backwards compatible te spelen is op de Xbox One. Black Ops 2 was met ongeveer 217.000 stemmen de meest aangevraagde game voor het backward compatibility programma. Op dit moment wordt de lijst aangevoerd door Skyrim, met ongeveer 175.000 stemmen. Call
of Duty Modern Warfare 2 staat op de tweede plaats met ongeveer 172.500 stemmen en Modern Warfare 3 staat met ongeveer 123.000 stemmen op de derde plaats. Fans kunnen in een lijst op het forum van Xbox stemmen op welke games zij graag in het backward compatibility programma zouden willen zien. Veel populaire games uit deze lijst zijn inmiddels al opgenomen in het programma en Xbox laat weten
voortdurend te werken aan nieuwe toevoegingen. Ook Project Scorpio, Microsofts nieuwe console die later dit jaar uitkomt, zal beschikken over het backward compatibility programma. Dit heeft het bedrijf bekendgemaakt via een officiële post op haar blog.
Inmiddels zijn er al meer dan 350 Xbox 360 games te spelen op de Xbox One via dit programma. Xbox laat weten blij te zijn met het voortdurende enthousiasme voor het programma en de aanhoudende interactie vanuit de fans, die op dit moment al meer dan 360 miljoen uur gespendeerd hebben aan het spelen van games in dit programma. Spelers die al beschikken over Black Ops 2, kunnen zonder bijkomende kosten
gebruik maken van de backwards compatible functionaliteit. Spelers die de game nog niet hebben, kunnen de game met korting aanschaffen in de Xbox Store Spring Sale. Black Ops 2 is daar met 50 procent korting verkrijgbaar, voor Gold-leden is de game zelfs met 60 procent korting aan te schaffen. The original Call of Duty: Black Ops finds itself in the 10th place spot, though it's considerably cheaper than its sequel, priced at $29.99. It's clear that there's an appetite for classic Call of Duty experiences like this on Xbox. And for those that don't feel like paying for the games but still want to play them, they can likely look forward to checking out the franchise through Xbox Game Pass at some point in the future. Once Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard goes through, all the company's games will likely be added to Xbox Game Pass, so it's just a matter of time before the Call of Duty franchise makes the leap. Call of Duty has an impressive past, but the franchise's future is looking bright as well. While there have been some complaints about the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer beta, the buzz surrounding the new game seems to be generally positive.
