You’ve got a rare Friday evening to yourself. You’ve picked your flick, you’ve got your pile of rag mags, or that novel you’ve been trying to lose yourself in for weeks. Months maybe.

It’s cold and blustering outside, and your cozy couch, fluffy cushions, and soft throws are calling your name.

There’s just one more thing you need to complete your perfect evening.

A soul-warming hot drink.

My friends, this Nutella Hot Chocolate beats the pants off an ordinary hot chocolate any day!

Ahhh….Nutella. I have such a weakness for it! I don’t ordinarily have a jar of it in the pantry because it’s just too darn dangerous. I’m that person who eats it straight out of the jar with a spoon. Don’t judge me! If you’re a fellow Nutella lover – and if you’re reading this, I’m guessing you are – I bet you do it too! ?

Whoever invented Nutella deserves a Nobel Prize. It’s chocolate done better. It’s chocolate in spoonable, dollapable form. It’s chocolate that’s been turned into all sorts of delectable desserts, from pies to cakes, bars to cupcakes.

I swear, hand on heart, I know not of any Nutella Haters. I have a theory that Nutella is like bacon. (Except in sweet form, obviously!). It makes everything better. 🙂

So this is how I make Hot Nutella Chocolate. I thought it would seem strange to call it just “Hot Nutella” because everyone knows what hot chocolate is, but what is Hot Nutella? I know…..and YOU know…. but I thought for the sake of a universal language, I’d call it a Hot Nutella Chocolate!

I get a cheeky thrill out of making this in a beer mug. Don’t ask me why I have a twisted sense of humor. I also love that I can see that milky Nutella color of the milk, and plus my beer mug is larger than an ordinary mug. Because a standard size coffee mug is just too small. I feel deprived of my Nutella fix!

Go forth and enjoy! I make this in the microwave because it’s faster than using a saucepan – and less washing up. 🙂 But I’ve provided directions for both.

Prep Time: 2 minutes

Total Time: 2 minutes

Servings: 1

  • 3 tbsp Nutella plus extra for drizzling
  • 1 cup milk
  • Whipped Cream optional

  • Place Nutella in a heatproof mug.

  • Add 1/4 cup of the milk.

  • Microwave on HIGH for 30 seconds.

  • Remove and mix until the Nutella dissolves.

  • Add remaining milk and mix. Microwave on high for 1 minute or until hot to your taste.

  • Mix again. Top with cream, drizzle with extra warmed Nutella if desired. Enjoy!

To drizzle Nutella on top, just microwave an extra bit of Nutella in a small bowl then drizzle.

Optional extras (though I don't feel the need!): marshmallows, cocoa powder, cookie crumbs.

I like using whipped cream in a can because it kind of <g class="gr_ gr_92 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_disable_anim_appear Grammar multiReplace" id="92" data-gr-id="92">foams like</g> shown in the photo in the post.

How to Get Dinner on the Table ... FAST

Can you melt Nutella in microwave?

You can quickly melt Nutella by scooping it into a bowl and microwaving it gently. Or if you'd like to melt a larger amount, simply put the jar of Nutella into a bowl of hot water. If you only need a little Nutella for spreading, heat a metal knife or spoon then use it to scrape up the softened Nutella.

What would happen if I mix Nutella with milk?

Channel your favorite bartender and keep shaking the jar until the Nutella that has been stuck in those hard to reach places mixes with the milk to come together in a harmonious, emulsified, milky, chocolatey, and slightly frothy union. Pour into your favorite glass, sit back, and enjoy the dregs of that Nutella jar.
