Best Mississippi Pot Roast Recipe

My pot roast recipe is just 5 ingredients and a slow cooker! The ranch dressing, pepperoncini peppers, and au jus gravy add so much flavor. There is a chance you may never go back to traditional pot roast again!

It’s true that butter makes everything better. This dish brings on the creamiest, richest tasting beef I have ever tried.

To quote my family, “This is the best roast we’ve ever had!” This is one of those recipes that really is THAT good!

I could not get over how easy this recipe was to prepare and the flavor was just amazing! It is a keeper!

How to Cook Mississippi Pot Roast

The glorious part of cooking a Mississippi Pot Roast slow cooker recipe is that it’s a true slow cooker “dump and forget” recipe.

  1. Place the roast into the crock of a slow cooker. Pour the entire jar (peppers and juice) of pepperoncini peppers over the roast. Add the stick of butter, then pour the dry ranch dressing and dry Au Jus over the top. Cover with the lid.

  2. Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours (or high for 4 to 5 hours).
  3. Once finished, shred with a fork and serve.

Mississippi Roast Recipe Tips

  • You can use a packet of brown gravy mix instead of au jus if desired. This will create a thicker gravy.
  • Rump roast is slightly more tender than chuck roast, so I recommend giving it a try. However, you can use either rump roast or chuck roast for this dish.

How to Make Pot Roast Gravy

It’s super easy to make gravy for your pot roast. You can follow our step-by-step instructions for Slow Cooker Beef Gravy, or follow these easy instructions:

  1. Remove the pot roast from the slow cooker.
  2. Measure 1 cup of the drippings.
  3. Whisk together two tablespoons of cornstarch with ¼ cup of water.
  4. Add the mixture to the drippings, stirring vigorously to combine.
  5. Cover and cook on high for an additional ½ hour.
  6. This is the perfect time to shred your beef and then reunite the two!

Or you can also substitute gravy packets for the au jus and you will automatically have a thicker gravy.
