Marking the gateway for the Lawrence, Kansas campus’ southern entrance, Capitol Federal Hall houses the University of Kansas School of Business. The building is composed of two wings separated by a four-story atrium. Clad in limestone-inspired architectural precast and custom curtainwall systems, the facility is topped with a green roof over its 350-seat auditorium. Students can take advantage of “grab ‘n’ go” style food service and coffee in the central atrium on their way to and from four tiered classrooms and 15 traditional classrooms. Capitol Federal Hall provides all the amenities expected in a modern business education facility including a computer lab, finance lab, and interview spaces, along with conference and break-out spaces for peer-to-peer collaboration.

During preconstruction, the JE Dunn team worked closely with the design team on conceptual design selection, optimizing the precast skin system to achieve desired architectural aesthetic while maximizing project budget, as well as analyzing multiple mechanical systems to optimize efficiency. Starting their process at the initial napkin sketch stage, the project team explored four potential building schemes. Utilizing Lens Search, JE Dunn helped the team to create a baseline cost per square foot for the overall project. Building on that, JE Dunn estimators then put Lens Aim to work to create high-level estimates for each of the four options, ultimately providing detailed cost information that allowed the selection and progression of design for the most desired building concept. This preconstruction process led to a final result in design selection that best met student and faculty needs both currently and well into the future, all while delivering a project at budget.

Liberty’s Sports Complex gets a new name through Sponsorship with Capitol Federal®

Liberty City Council has approved a 5-year naming rights sponsorship with Capitol Federal® for Liberty Parks & Rec’s sports complex.

Formerly known as Fountain Bluff Sports Complex, the nationally recognized facility will be renamed Capitol Federal® Sports Complex of Liberty. The facility has been a premier sports complex in Liberty and the Northland since June 2002 and has hosted state, regional and national baseball and softball tournaments.

The naming rights sponsorship comes on the heels of a nearly $4 million renovation of the facility’s nine baseball/softball fields that involved the installation of full synthetic turf in:

  • the outfields and infields of five baseball/softball fields
  • the infields of three baseball/softball fields
  • the infield of the complex’s high school regulation sized field
