We have the Evenflo SafeMax and there’s no specifications like age or weight for when to take the insert out. I feel like she still needs a little support around her head (holds it up well but when she falls asleep I feel like it would be tilted too much?) but she looks squished and it’s kinda hard to get her out with the insert.

I took out the head insert, with my 3 mo old. It didn’t look comfortable for her anymore.

I left the body insert in, assuming it can come out. She’s only 10.5 lb so being so small body wise she has some room to grow but that big head of hers needed a little more room. 😊

Aimeeee

We took it out b/c she pooped all over it and we couldn't clean it right then.... but when we got home we realized it was supposed to come out when she hit 11 pounds and she was 11 pounds 6oz! So it was perfect timing!

I’ve seen at least a few of them say around 11-12 pounds. Which is the same as some brands of newborn clothes so typical newborn weight.

oh geez, I had to take mine out week 2, it made his head slide around more than without it. I just use a rolled muslin receiving blanket and put it around the top of his head to keep him in place. His head doesn't flop when he falls asleep and he doesn't get too hot

Our LO also looked smushed and I checked the weight limit (we have the Chico keyfit) and its 11 pounds. We still have the head insert, just removed the body.

We have a Chico car seat and it says 11 lbs. we still have the head insert in

It should say in your manual at what weight to remove inserts.
You can always go to the website and check your seat model.

@sleepwenimdead,

Mine didn't say clearly in the manual either! I went ahead and took it out when I saw that her head seemed to be tilting too far forward..also adjusted seat balance with a rolled up towel underneath to keep her at the appropriate angle. she's 13 lbs at 12.5 weeks. She seems more comfortable to me!

I took the insert out when my LO was about 10.5lbs, and 2mo old. It was looking uncomfortable for her.

With the Chico key for, instructions say to remove the infant insert at 11 lbs. and that you can use the head insert without the body insert if you want (which is what we do). I’m not sure about your brand of car seat. It should say in the manual, does it not? I couldn’t find mine so I looked online and found it.
