Long before I was an editor, I was a lover of a good ritual—and a good product. When I was in high school, I used to save my babysitting money and go to the local boutiques and splurge on a sophisticated beauty product because it would make me feel I was far more mature than my tender age of 15. But every now and again, I would find something I loved, and I'm happy to report that 15 years later there's one product that I will surely never be without: the Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Universal Peel Pads. I know you are surely thinking "what 15 year old has any business using an at-home peel?" Well. Me! This was the first beauty product that I ever saw a real difference with in my plump teenage skin. It all comes down to the formulation. The peel pads are two steps, the first is a blend of glycolic and lactic acids, plus vitamins A, C and E, and the second is a neutralizer. You swipe the first on the face and neck in circular motions and let it sit for a minute. Then you neutralize. At 15 this helped me with the odd breakout and kept my skin looking bright and smooth, because I tend to get Keratosis Pilaris on my face. In fact, it was the very first product I ever used to help get those bumps that I was so conscious of to go away. Flash forward to now, they also make a body peel pad that I use to treat the same condition on my arms and legs. Because it is exfoliating it helps me keep my KP in check, yes, but it is also gentle enough—and effective enough—to help with the texture I get on my forehead thanks to pesky rosacea. And the fact that these bad boys are individually packaged helps enormously with travel beauty woes. And did I mention the glow these give? Insane. I like to use them in my morning skin routine on the days where I am not using vitamin C. Why the morning? Because it would be a shame to waste that good glow while I am sleeping. Instead I just make sure to wear a good coating of SPF that I re-apply throughout the day. And of course, morning application also helps when I am using retinol because, as you may know, AHAs and retinol aren't the best combination when applied at the exact same time.
