Does mcdonald still do all day breakfast

Today’s lesson: Just because you heard about it on social media doesn’t mean it’s true. Even if a lot of people share it. Even if you really, really want it to be true. All this is to say that, no, McDonald’s is not bringing back its All-Day Breakfast on October 6. Those viral posts on Twitter and Instagram saying it was bringing back were fake.

On Friday, September 2, in a since-deleted post, a Twitter user linked to a screenshot of a press release headlined, “Let There Be Breakfast: McDonald’s Serving All Day Breakfast Starting Oct. 6.”

“Mark your calendars. McDonald’s is making breakfast history again by offering All Day Breakfast nationwide starting October 6th, allowing customers to enjoy some of their breakfast favorites outside of traditional breakfast hours,” the release trumpeted.

People got excited. Of course they did. (Sample response: “Dreams do come true.”) After all, there has been widespread hankering for the return of McDonald’s All-Day Breakfast, first introduced in October 2015, since the chain removed it from its national menu — apparently for efficiency purposes — in 2020, at the peak of the pandemic.

Alas, it turned out that the release shared on social media was actually from September 2015. Why it went viral now is anyone’s guess. But Food Network has confirmed that McDonald’s has not announced the nationwide reintroduction of its All-Day Breakfast and has no updates to share about its breakfast offerings at this time.

(NEXSTAR) — Despite how excited a few social media posts may have gotten you for the return of all-day breakfast at McDonald’s, don’t make your way to the drive-thru just yet.

In a written statement to Nexstar, a McDonald’s representative said the information being shared online is actually from a 2015 press release, when McDonald’s USA first announced all-day breakfast.

“We don’t have any updates to share about breakfast offerings at this time,” the representative said.

McDonald’s’ all-day breakfast was halted in March 2020, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, as the company made adjustments to simplify operations for local workers. The original 2015 rollout of all-day breakfast was a boon for McDonald’s, with the company saying the change was a “very strong catalyst for momentum.” McDonald’s posted higher-than-expected first-quarter earnings in 2016, much of which was attributed to the popularity of its breakfast, CNBC reports.

So what time does McDonald’s stop serving breakfast now?

Prior to 2015, McDonald’s stopped serving breakfast at 10:30 a.m. Since the end of all-day breakfast, that time has been re-instated, though some locations may serve breakfast until 11 a.m.

McDonald’s’ breakfast menu is home to some of America’s fast-food breakfast faves, including the Egg McMuffin and the Bacon, Egg and Cheese Biscuit.

The company officially added the breakfast line to menus nationwide in 1977, Mcdonald’s says. The full line came about after a long development of the Egg McMuffin, which began in early 1971.

According to McDonald’s owner Ray Kroc’s 1977 autobiography, local franchise owner Herb Peterson developed the sandwich and asked Kroc to try it. Kroc says Peterson refused to tell him what it was — fearful the owner would reject the idea — until after he’d tried it.

“He didn’t want me to reject it out of hand, which I might have done, because it was a crazy idea — a breakfast sandwich,” Kroc writes in “Grinding it Out: The Making of McDonald’s.” “… I boggled a bit at the presentation. But then I tasted it and I was sold. Wow!”

Egg McMuffins — the first McDonald’s breakfast item — were tested in select locations in 1972 and priced at 63 cents.

Ever since McDonald's launched its breakfast menu way back in 1972, via CNN, people had longed for the day that they can get a McMuffin for lunch, a McGriddle for a mid-afternoon snack, or even hotcakes for dinner should they be so wild. It wasn't until 2015 that McDonald's announced that it would be launching an official all-day breakfast program nationwide.

For nearly five years, customers could enjoy a combination of hash browns, french fries, breakfast sandwiches, and Quarter Pounders whenever the urge for a cheap, greasy fast-food breakfast struck them. No longer were they shackled to an early morning time limit, now Americans were free to enjoy that most forbidden of culinary delights, "breakfast for dinner," at any time and any day of the week.

Unfortunately, the glory of an all-day breakfast wasn't to last. In 2020, during the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, McDonald's announced that it would be suspending its all-day breakfast, via QSR Magazine. The reason for removing the all-day breakfast was to help "streamline" the menu and "simplify" operations for staff and workers.

Even though McDonald's doesn't officially have an all-day breakfast anymore, could it be that some McDonald's locations still serve it?

Some restaurants do offer a very limited all-day breakfast

According to McDonald's, some locations still serve all-day breakfast. As USA Today reports, the times when McDonald's officially begins to serve and end its breakfasts differ from location to location. You may find that a McDonald's in Texas, for example, may serve breakfast from anywhere from 7 am to 10:30 am, while a McDonald's in Boston may serve breakfast from 6 am to 11:00 am. One location in LA, USA Today claims, only begins serving breakfast at 5 am, but also has a limited all-day breakfast menu.

Perhaps if we want to find where else McDonald's serves an all-day breakfast, we'll have to look outside of the U.S. and in Canada for answers. According to Narcity, McDonald's Canada began serving all-day breakfast in 2017, two years after all-day breakfast was introduced in North America — and it seems to still be going on in some locations. McDonald's Canada admits that only select breakfast items are available all day rather than the expansive menu people are so used to.

Will McDonald's ever bring all-day breakfast back?

If McDonald's were to bring back all-day breakfast, it won't have any trouble making a profit. On the other hand, many staff members have actually been glad that the company shelved all-day breakfast. According to Insider, employees found that not only was it a pain to work the breakfast equipment alongside the standard kitchen equipment, but it was incredibly hard to transition from breakfast hours to lunch hours. One example notes that should a customer order breakfast during regular lunch hours, the breakfast order must be prepared exclusively for that customer among the normal requests, so employees have to waste time just to prepare one order. It would be like someone coming up and ordering a McMuffin and hash browns while everyone else ordered cheeseburgers and McNuggets.

Since customers love it and employees seem to dislike it, this further muddies the question of whether or not McDonald's will ever bring back its all-day breakfast nationwide. But stranger things have happened.
