How Xylocaine Injection Works

Xylocaine injection is a local anesthetic that is most commonly prescribed to treat heart arrhythmias also known as irregular heartbeats. It may also be used for resistant seizure movement, as well as used by doctors for numbing the body. Xylocine is usually injected directly into a large vein or dense muscle. It works by preventing the nerves from sending pain signals to the brain. Lidocaine injection numbs the area of your body to help reduce pain or discomfort caused by invasive medical procedures such as surgery, needle punctures, or insertion of a catheter or breathing tube.

Xylocaine Injection Possible Side Effects

Side effects are the negative results of a medication, and unfortunately almost every medication can potentially cause some unwanted side effects in the person using the medication. Xylocaine side effects are generally temporary are nor very severe. Be sure to contact your doctor if any of the following side effects persist or become severe:
• Confusion
• Dizziness, drowsiness
• Mental changes, muscle twitching

Alternative Agents & Management

    • Bupivacaine and lidocaine are amide-type local anesthetics commonly used in clinical practice. The following table compares their pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties. Key differences between the products are onset of action, duration of action, and dose. In general, bupivacaine is a longer-acting local anesthetic, while lidocaine has a more rapid onset, but shorter duration of action.[1-2]
