App to make video look like film

Everyone loves that old-school film look. Whether you’re shooting photos with friends or getting some footage for memories, it’s hard not to notice the texture and color qualities of film stock. And now, with modern technology, you can get those retro film tones from the palm of your hand – with your mobile device. There’s no need to go through the long and costly process of buying film cameras and then getting your film processed.

Although film itself may be dying off because of the costly equipment and materials, it doesn’t mean film enthusiasts have stopped enjoying film effects and manipulations. Now, with the help of your mobile device, you can get super 8 film effects, vhs overlays and more for all of your best memories! Check out our list of the best vintage film mobile apps to help you get those incredible film qualities from your mobile camera.

Gudak

Last up on our list of the best vintage film mobile apps is Gudak. This cool film app actually mimics what it is like to shoot film by only allowing you to shoot 24 shots per roll. After you shoot a rule, you then have to wait to re-charge for an hour before shooting again. On top of this, just like real film – you will have to wait to see your photos. In this case, Gudak makes you wait three days before seeing your photos.

Quite a cool concept and definitely worth checking out!

Hi, I used to use the isupr8 app on my Samsung 10 and loved it but I can’t seem to get it to work anymore on my Samsung S20. I think I remember reading that it won’t work with the latest android upgrades? Is that right, and it there a similar quality alternative?

Well, I just bought some extremely cheap film cameras on ebay (for about 20 €/$), bought real film and even develop it myself. Even a 100 years old camera is easily cheap and useable. Nothing can mimic the real thing, specially for yourself. I’ve ended doing 1850’s collodion dry plates, imagine how addictive is this.

Decrease Contrast In order to make your footage look vintage, you'll want to turn down the contrast just a little. Vintage footage doesn't hold black or white levels as well as modern video. In most video editing applications, you can simply add a contrast effect and dial it down by about 20%.
