Apa 7th edition in text book citation

Eliot, T. S. (2001). Tradition and the individual talent. In V. B. Leitch (Ed.), The Norton anthology of theory and criticism (pp. 1092-1097). W. W. Norton. (Original work published 1920)

Note that the page numbers of an article or chapter are preceded by "pp." in the reference list entry (for example, "pp. 1092-1097"). In cases where an article/chapter occupies a single page, the page number is preceded by "p." (e.g, "p. 4").

Include the book's DOI after the publisher's name if a DOI is available.

If an article has been reprinted from a source that was published earlier, give the original date of publication in the "original work" element of the citation, as shown above. When using this element, do not put a period after it.

Note that this template should be used only for books that have different authors for each chapter. If the author(s) is/are the same for an entire book, create a reference list entry for the entire book, even if you only quoted from one chapter of the book. (Your in-text citation will direct your reader to the specific part of the book that you quoted.)

The 7th edition of APA does not differentiate between the format of the books, print or electronic. Cite both the same way. If you have an open-access eBook, you may provide the URL at the end, provided it directly takes you to the full text without logging in.

Note: When citing in-text, it can be difficult if your eBook does not have a page number (most PDF books do). In this case, try to get as specific as possible by mentioning chapter, section, and paragraph numbers.

One of the author's main points is that "people don't rise from nothing" (Gladwell, 2008, Chapter 1, Section 2, para. 5).

  • Use (Ed.) for one editor
  • Use (Eds.) for multiple editors

How DOI in

APA in-text citation style uses the author's last name and the year of publication, for example: (Field, 2005). For direct quotations, include the page number as well, for example: (Field, 2005, p. 14). For sources such as websites and e-books that have no page numbers, use a paragraph number.

How do you in

In-text citations include the last name of the author followed by a page number enclosed in parentheses. "Here's a direct quote" (Smith 8). If the author's name is not given, then use the first word or words of the title. Follow the same formatting that was used in the works cited list, such as quotation marks.

How do you in

Number of Authors to Include in In-text Citations For a work with one or two authors, include the author name(s) in every citation. For a work with three or more authors, include the name of only the first author plus "et al." in every citation, including the first citation, unless doing so would create ambiguity.
