COURSE DESCRIPTION:
American Heart Association
HEARTSAVER FIRST AID | CPR-AED

  • Heartsaver courses are for lay rescuer students whose employers require the American Heart Association certification.
  • The Heartsaver CPR-AED & First Aid combo course is STCW and US Coast Guard Approved.
  • The Heartsaver CPR-AED course includes certification in adult, child, and infant CPR-AED.
  • Heartsaver courses are NOT for Healthcare staff or students. Most medical or dental staff and students enroll in our BLS for Providers.
  • Heartsaver courses are NOT for childcare providers or school bus drivers. Most childcare providers and school bus drivers enroll in our EMSA Approved courses.
  • Please note that it is YOUR responsibility to enroll in the correct course. Click here for help choosing a class.
  • American Heart Association certificates are valid for 2 years and are issued digitally via email. Physical cards are no longer issued.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • All students will be required to review and sign a liability waiver in class.
  • In order to successfully pass the CPR-AED course, you will be required to practice and demonstrate CPR skills on both an adult manikin and an infant manikin several times. THIS WILL REQUIRE PHYSICAL EFFORT, including kneeling on the floor and pushing forcefully on the manikin’s chest with both hands/arms. If at any time you are unable to practice or perform CPR skills due to discomfort or limitations, you must let your instructor know immediately. We will stop your practice or testing.

  • The minimum age to attend this course is 14 years old.
  • Students under 16 years old must be enrolled with, and accompanied by, a paid adult.
  • Students under 18 years old must have their parent/guardian sign a release of liability form in class at registration

COURSE COMPLETION CARDS

  • Physical cards are no longer issued by the American Heart Association.
  • On the first business day after successful completion of an AHA course, each student will receive 2 emails.
  • One email will be from the American Heart Association® with the link to their site to claim your eCard.
  • The other email will be from AmeriMed CPR Training with helpful information regarding the eCard claiming process.
  • Due to privacy policies, eCards may not be issued to a group, only an individual.
  • Each student must use their unique email to claim their eCard.
  • eCards are issued in pdf format.
  • Once your eCard is issued, you may download it, share it, and print it.
  • You may request written course completion verification in class.

Is AED certification the same as CPR?

CPR and AED training are two different steps in saving the life of someone suffering from cardiac arrest. CPR is a procedure to keep the blood pumping when the heart stops, while an AED is a machine that will get the heart started again after it stops.

How long does it take to get AHA ecard?

When can I expect to receive my course completion card from the AHA? Training Centers must issue course completion cards within 20 days of successful course completion. Please contact your AHA Instructor or Training Center Coordinator if you have any questions about your card.

What is a passing score for AHA CPR?

The American Heart Association's BLS for Healthcare Provider written test is 25 questions, and covers the material found in the workbook as class video. The passing score is 84%, which means a student can incorrectly answer four questions without having to retake the exam.

Is heartsaver first aid the same as CPR?

American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver First Aid, CPR, AED Course is an instructor-led and video-based course that teaches individuals in the community to provide FIRST AID, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillator (AED) use in a safe, timely, and effective manner.
