What does an "A" within a arrowed circle with an exclamation point next to it - above the fuel gauge - mean?

I just figured it's the stop/start indicator, but don't think I saw the exclamation point before. Not sure what's that about. We usually turn it off, but I never saw the exclamation point before.

If it has an exclamation point in it, it means something's up with your ESS.

When ESS is active, you'll see the same green "A" within an arrowed circle appear as an icon in the tach area.

Yes, thanks ... figured out there is a "Service Stop/Start System" warning and message. It was going in for service tomorrow to replace the rear windshield that was disfigured when we purchased it. We just got the car a few months ago and it has under 900 miles on it.

Is this ... could this be related to the transmission issues?? The service manager asked if we were having transmission issues, when I called to add this to the service order for tomorrow. The only thing I've noticed is a little roughness shifting between the lower gears - maybe 2nd and 3rd. And the other thing that's a little weird is that when you're slowing down to stop it feels like it's going faster and I have to brake more urgently.

Do we have the dreaded transmission issues??!! Argh! We traded a Ford Edge in with the dreaded battery / charging issues, so I thought lightning couldn't strike twice.

I doubt it's related to the tranny problems. I've had that same warning once and it went out when I restarted the vehicle. I've never had trans problems.

I had that same warning and message. In my case it ended up being a problem with a ground wire. It seems that each time you start the vehicle it checks the battery condition to make sure it is charged up enough for the stop/start system to work - if it detects any problem it will display that icon.

Mine was cured by the dealer but they had to open up a star case with Chrysler before they figured out the solution.

Interesting ... our warning light doesn't come on at initial start, but after driving for 1/2 mile - to a mile. Hope it's a quick fix.

The "A!" warning light located just above the fuel gauge full mark indicates an ESS issue..the start-stop V6 feature. Nothing to do with the transmission. Mine came on once so I pulled over and restarted it from scratch. Hasn't been on since.
