5.0 out of 5 stars Quality antenna

This is a quality at antenna, made out of aluminum, about half the length of the original.Make sure to apply dielectric grease to the stud to in order to preserve the reception against corrosion. Also, realize that while this antenna is half the length of the regional, it is not flexible. This means that if you strike something with it the antenna mount may break or the roof might actually bend or both. However, the antenna is so robust that I doubt it will break.

Very easy to install and get good reception but not as good as the manufacturers.

About 2 weeks ago I was backing out of the garage, and my stock radio antenna caught the bottom frame of my garage door... applying enough force to pull the door down & strip the bracket retaining bolts from the carry arm -- my garage door literally got "pulled down" onto my jeep. Although I admit this is probably a rarity, it just happened to be the perfect storm of circumstances.

Back to the stubby... solid one-piece construction... installation was straight-forward and simple... literally seconds. Big plus for me, was that I no longer hear the antenna snagging the garage door whenever I take my Jeep in/out (I had the garage door repaired a few days before the stubby arrived).

I was actually surprised by how short the Stubby is, and although I have a small fear of hitting something with it and tearing the entire roof off (note: it is SOLID), the height at which you would strike anything would probably do the same amount of damage to the stock antenna anyway.

Reception deviance hasn't been a big issue for me, and if there's been a loss of signal quality I can't really discern the difference.

The Stubby is the answer!!! 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with factory tires (not over sized/off road, which may be an issue once I upgrade the tires when they are worn out). I had the 8" factory installed antenna and it would not fit in my garage so I started searching the web for alternatives or a cap for the current antenna. There are two things out there. The Stubby $25.00 (4") with Amazon Prime shipping and the Mark II for $89.00 with an additional shipping charge. I called the manufacturer of the Mark II to see how high it is and it is between 4" to 5" in height. also, since it is custom paint there will be a 15% restocking fee to return it if it does not work for you. The Stubby allows an additional inch of space between the antenna and my garage door (I have a carport converted to a garage so it might be lower than a standard garage height). I have Satellite radio and it works great with the Stubby.

The Stubby screws into the original receptacle on the TrailHawk, BUT, it does not screw all the way down....it leaves almost a quarter inch gap between the bottom of the antenna and the top of the receptacle...the original antenna has a small shroud , if you will, that covers the gap and doesn't allow water inside or make it unsightly. I used a black rubber hose washer and trimmed the outer diameter and slid it on the brass screw at the bottom of the shaft ...it took up the space and made it look less unsightly. Other than that it works fine.
Follow up review: 6/5/2018....after driving around for a couple days I have to say that radio reception is not as good as the original antenna for my vehicle ( 2014 Jeep Cherokee TrailHawk ) had some dropouts and buffering that I was not experiencing with original antenna. Needless to say I put the original antenna back on and now I'm happy. BTW, original replacement antenna is only 15 bucks, compared to 25 dollar Stubby.

Careful tightening this...it got very tight 3/4 of the way and I still had a gap...I decided to go a little tighter and it did screw down closer, but would have sucked if it stripped...so again - be careful! The reception is about the same as a stock antenna; I have a distant news station that I listen to on my way to work everyday and it fizzles out just before I get there...it was about the same.

Looks great on my 2011 Grand Cherokee and it didn’t affect the radio reception. I’m glad I bought it.

Where is the radio antenna on a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Left Rear Quarter Panel. Right Rear Quarter Panel.

Can you take the antenna off your car?

Car Antennas: Most antennas can either be unscrewed or pushed down so they no longer protrude from the car's exterior. They're flexible enough to withstand the occasional automatic car wash, but it's best if you get in the habit of removing these items before you head in.
