Did you have oil on your coil boot?

I don't recall, but when I took out the number 4 plug there was oil on the socket after I pulled it out

Thats not a good sign. The good news is that valve cover is easy to pull. You need to replace the gasket and 3 seals at the spark plug tubes to keep oil out of the plug well.
Exactly what codes has the ecm produced?

No joke, if the boots are original then replace just the boots. It's cheap and helped me rid my missfire that I couldn't find. I put on the 4.6l ford coils but kept my boots....oops It does make a difference. A simple valve cover gasket set will not set you back much and is easy to do, you should get the large gasket and coil gaskets in the kit. Might need to get one for each valve cover. While you are at it I would change your pcv valve as you will have really easy access to it. I change mine every other oil change. If you are bored curious or nervous, put yourself at ease and either have a compression test done or do one yourself your engine health is normally spelled out in those numbers. Good Luck bud....

The camshaft position sensors are on the side of the motor on the passenger side. One bolt holds them in, the front one is easy to get to, the back one is a little more tricky. Just undo the bolt and pull straight out.

I pulled and cleaned mine the other day, the motor felt a little more responsive; could just be in my head though

I have had a misfire on cylinder one that I cannot diagnose (coils new, and changed coils, misfire followed. 2 sets of plugs new) Oil is typically present on the threads of the plugs and build-up on the electrode, but nothing on the coils. Even looking down the plug tubes I don't see any sign of oil. Do you think this is a product of a valve gasket and could cause a misfire?

How did you look Down plug tube number one? Lol...number one is back, left, near the firewall.

How many miles on your car? I'm pretty sure your valve cover gasket is leaking also. I'm at 167k miles and mine has been leaking since about 90k...Lol I get a little hesitation going uphill in 3rd gear every now and then(not often). I know that's my issue since I changed my plugs again a couple years ago and noticed oil on my #1 plug& coil. I'll prob get to it this year tho.

The car is currently sitting in my parking lot with intake plenum off and coils and plugs removed. I just climbed on the motor with a flashlight and looked down the plug tube? I'm no mechanic but I think that is what I am looking down?

Does it seem plausible that a leaky valve gasket cause a misfire? Either way, I am hoping to change the gasket this weekend. Also hoping to compression test bank 1. Bank 2 was tested by my mechanic not long ago and was fine.

Where is the camshaft position sensor located at?

The Camshaft Position sensor is typically located in the cylinder head of the engine and has a cylindrical portion that inserts into the head. The Crankshaft Position sensor is normally located in the timing cover or on the side of the block with a cylindrical portion that inserts into the block.

What are the signs of a failing cam sensor?

A glowing check engine light, stalling, poor acceleration and bad fuel mileage are all possible signs your camshaft position sensor may be failing. Gone are the days of carburetors and distributors, replaced by a variety of sensors that help a car's computer get the maximum performance out of the engine.

Can you reset a camshaft sensor?

Unfortunately, there's no way to reset a camshaft position sensor. If you're having camshaft issues (check engine light on, acceleration trouble, sputtering and stalling, etc.), you'll have to replace the part entirely.

Where is camshaft position sensor A circuit Bank 1?

A camshaft position sensor (CMP) is essentially a component in the format of a cylinder, which is often located on the outside of the front cover (at the front of the engine under the valve cover).
