COVID-19

Effective February 28, 2022, face coverings are no longer required while present in the Circuit and District courthouse unless ordered otherwise by a presiding judge. Face coverings are permitted if an individual chooses to wear one. Inmates and employees of the Office of the Sheriff are subject to the directions of the Sheriff. Individuals will continue to be screened for COVID prior to entry.

If you are looking for information on your court case, that website is by the Commonwealth of Virginia, not by the County of Henrico, and it is at http://www.courts.state.va.us/courts/gd/Henrico/home.html. If you go to that page, look on the right side and choose General District Court Case Information. It will bring you to a page where you have to type in some numbers/letters, then you will see the page where you can search for case information by date, name, etc.

The General District Court is comprised of the Judges’ Office and the Clerk’s Office.

The General District Court:

  • Handles misdemeanor cases and holds preliminary hearings to determine probable cause in felonies
  • Presides over involuntary mental commitment hearings for Arlington County.
  • Has exclusive jurisdiction over claims for damages not greater than $25,000.
  • Processes records such as criminal warrants, civil cases, and traffic summonses.

Can you look up district court cases?

PACER allows anyone with an account to search and locate appellate, district, and bankruptcy court case and docket information. Register for a PACER account. Use the PACER Case Locator if you are not sure which specific federal court the case was filed.

Can you look up court cases in Virginia?

Cases may be searched by locality using name, case number, or hearing date. Online secure remote access to circuit court land records (as defined in Virginia Code §17.1-292) such as deeds, marriage licenses, judgments, and wills for select courts. Note: Registration with the local Circuit Court Clerk is required.

How do I find court records in Virginia?

Please call 804-371-9141 or email [email protected] with general questions and records requests. You may visit the Document Control Center to review case documents. The Document Control Center is in the Clerk's Office, on the 1st floor of the SCC's headquarters at 1300 East Main Street, in downtown Richmond.

How do I find someone's charges in Virginia?

The central custodian of criminal records is the Virginia State Police. The same grants official access to check statewide criminal history records. Commonly, public requesters of criminal record history checks must complete an SP-167 request form.
