Samsung smart view not connecting to tv

Samsung recently removed the ability to use Smart View with anything other than a Samsung-branded device, such as a Samsung Smart TV or speaker. This means many Samsung users running Android 11 or later cannot mirror with Reflector.

We have found a workaround that has proven successful for most users. This involves re-enabling Google Cast functionality on your Samsung device and using Cast instead of Smart View to mirror to Reflector. Follow the steps below to implement the workaround.

Step 1

Download and install the free Quick Settings app from the Google Play Store on your Samsung device.

Note:

Cast support within Smart View is rapidly evolving at this time, and results may vary from model to model. Smart View may still be used to connect to Reflector, and this method should be used as a backup when Smart View is failing on Android 11 devices. Please contact us if you have any questions!

The Samsung smart TV comes with a one-of-a-kind feature known as Smart View. Samsung smart view allows you to mirror content from your smartphone and laptop to your TV in real time. You can send photos, music, and videos from your smartphone to your Samsung smart TV.

You can also use your smartphone as a remote control for your Samsung TV with the Smart View app.

All you have to do is download and install the app from the Playstore, then connect it to your TV.

How to fix Smart View not working

This post is for you if you’ve downloaded and installed the Smart View app but are having trouble connecting it to your TV. This blog post will show you how to fix the problem in real time.

1. Allow Permission On Your Device

You must grant permission for your smart view app to sync with your smart TV. To do so, launch the Smart View app and tap on the name of your TV. You will be asked to authorize the connection. To finish, press the ‘Allow’ button on your TV.

2. Check Aspect Ratio Setting

The image on your smartphone may appear small on your Smart TV at times. If the aspect ratio settings on your tablet or phone do not match those on your Samsung smart TV, the screen mirroring process may be hampered.

The aspect ratio on your device can be adjusted to resolve this issue. To change the aspect ratio on your phone, follow these steps:

• Launch the Smart View app.

• Select ‘Phone or Tablet Aspect Ratio’ from the drop-down menu.

• Go to your mobile phone’s settings.

3. Check WiFi  Network

To set up the Smart view, make sure your Samsung Smart TV and smartphone are both connected to WiFi. Furthermore, make sure that both the TV and the smart phone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Once you’ve confirmed that both devices are on the same network, you can refresh the application, the smart view app, and try connecting to your smart TV.

4. Reduce Internet Distance

If your internet connection is down or slow, you may encounter problems when using the smart view function. Follow the steps below to resolve the connectivity issue.

• Move your router closer to your television and phone.

• Raise your router above the device.

• Use speedtest.net to check your internet speed.

5. Disable VPN

Another thing to keep an eye out for is the VPN. If you use a VPN on any of the devices that are connected together, the network will be unable to detect the device on the same Wi-Fi network.

You must ensure that no VPN is being used on any of your devices, including your phone and television. This ensures that the other device can detect the device you’re attempting to mirror on the same network and that everything works properly.

6. Power Cycle Router

If your wifi is slow or not working, try power cycling your router using the instructions below.

• Unplug your router and television from the power supply.

• Shut down your Samsung phone.

• Wait 5–10 minutes.

• Plug in and power on your router.

• Turn on your television and phone.

• Reconnect your devices to the same network.

Check to see if the Samsung smart view not working issue has been resolved.

7. Update The Smart View App

The issue could be caused by the app itself. The simple solution is to go to Google Play and see if there is an update. If so, simply click the update button and restart the app. This may resolve the problem.

8. Update Samsung TV Firmware

Samsung releases software updates on a regular basis. If you haven’t updated the firmware on your TV in a while, some features and functionalities will be affected. The screen mirroring feature could also be included.

The software updates include new features that fix bugs in previous versions. Check for new software updates on your TV and ensure it is running the most recent version.

On Samsung smart TVs, there are two ways to update the software. You can update via USB or the Internet. I’ll go over both methods in detail below:

Using a USB cable, update the software on your Samsung Smart TV by following these steps:

• On your laptop, go to the Samsung Website.

• Enter the model number of your television. It will take you to the support page for your specific product model.

• Locate the firmware file and save the most recent version to your computer.

• The file is delivered in the form of a Zip file. Unzip the archive.

• Insert a USB flash drive into your laptop and copy and paste the unzipped file into a USB drive folder.

• Using the USB port on your TV, connect the USB drive.

• On your remote, press ‘Settings’ and then choose ‘Support’ from the list of options.

• Click on ‘Software Update.’

• Select ‘Auto Now.’

• Wait for the update to finish.

Follow these steps to update TV firmware via the internet:

• Join your television to a wireless network.

• On your remote, press ‘Settings’ and then choose ‘Support’ from the list of options.

• Click on ‘Software Update.’

• If a new software version is available, you will see the ‘Update Now’ and ‘Auto Update’ options.

• Select ‘Auto Now.’ Wait for the update to finish.

9. Factory Reset Your TV

If you’re still having problems after trying the steps above, resetting your television should help. Resetting your device will return it to its factory settings and erase all data.

Follow the steps below to factory reset your smart TV:

• Turn on the television.

• Select the menu option.

• Choose support and then press Enter.

• Choose Self Diagnosis and press Enter.

• Select Reset, then Enter.

• Enter 0000 as your default pin.

• Confirm with the Yes button.

Why is my Samsung screen mirroring not working?

If you're having issues with your devices not connecting screen mirroring, a quick fix is to restart both your TV and phone. Make sure that your phone is paired and connected to your TV using the same Wi-Fi network and then reboot the Wi-Fi router.

Why won't my Samsung app connect to my TV?

Restart the devices. Restart both the phone and TV or projector, and then launch the SmartThings app on the phone again. The phone and TV/projector need to be logged into the same Samsung account to pair. Only Samsung models can be added to the SmartThings app.

How do I get Samsung Smart View to work?

On your Android device, swipe down twice from the top of the screen to reveal the Quick Settings tray. If Smart View isn't on this page, you may need to search for it or swipe to the second page of tiles in the tray. Note: You may see the Cast option here as well.
