If there was a way to extend the life of your Samsung refrigerator most of us would choose to do so. Fortunately performing regular maintenance, like cleaning the refrigerator’s condenser coils, is the easiest way to prolong its lifespan. We’ll review how to clean Samsung refrigerator coils with five simple steps, so your refrigerator can always operate at peak performance.
How to Clean Samsung Refrigerator Coils Quickly and Easily
Knowing how to clean Samsung refrigerator coils doesn’t take a lot of time or special equipment. A narrow vacuum hose attachment, an appliance brush, and a dust mask are all you need to get the job done in minutes. But before we detail how to clean condenser coils, we’ll explain why this task is so essential.
Why You Should Clean Your Refrigerator Coils
As refrigerant passes through the condenser coils, it releases heat and creates cool air for the refrigerator. If the coils are covered in dust and dirt, they may not be able to cool the refrigerant effectively. The refrigerator then has to work harder, possibly resulting in repairs, a shorter lifespan, and higher energy bills.
To avoid these outcomes, we suggest you clean condenser coils on Samsung refrigerator every 6-12 months. However, if you notice your refrigerator not cooling appropriately or the refrigerator runs loud you may need to clean them more often. Follow the steps below to clean the coils quickly and easily.
Step 1: Unplug the Refrigerator
The first step in how to clean Samsung refrigerator coils starts with disconnecting the refrigerator from its power source. This will better ensure your safety before you begin working. As an additional safety precaution, put on your dust mask after unplugging the refrigerator to avoid inhaling any dust while you work.
Step 2: Locate the Refrigerator Coils
So, where are condenser coils on Samsung refrigerator models? Most coils can be found in one of 3 locations:
- In the back of the refrigerator behind a rear panel
- Behind a lower grille under the refrigerator doors
- Under an upper grille on top of the refrigerator
Consult your owner’s manual to determine the exact location of your model refrigerator’s condenser coils.
Step 3: Vacuum the Coils
After locating the coils, vacuum all visible dust and debris with the narrow hose vacuum attachment. Make sure you vacuum the area around the coils as well as the coils themselves.
Step 4: Use an Appliance Brush
Use the flexible appliance brush to clean hard-to-reach areas. Loosen any additional dust and debris on the coils as well as in between each one.

Step 5: Vacuum Remaining Debris
Vacuum the coils and surrounding area one more time to remove any debris that the brush may have dislodged. Make sure you vacuum the floor around the refrigerator as well.
Step 6: Reposition Refrigerator
The last step in how to clean Samsung refrigerator coils involves repositioning your refrigerator. If the refrigerator coils were behind a rear panel, replace the panel, plug the refrigerator in and move it back in place. If the coils were located behind a front grille, replace the grille after restoring its power.
If your refrigerator is still not cooling properly even after a coil cleaning, a refrigerator repair may be in order. Appliance King can help with any needed repair.
