Four similarities between male and female reproductive system

The functional and most significant difference in the male and female reproductive system is that male reproductive system only produces sperms and delivers to the female reproductive system. On the other hand, the female reproductive system is designed to produce a baby and promote its development.

Reproduction is the process of fusion of male and female gamete, to produce their species. While the organs of an individual body involved in this process, together known as the reproductive system.

We know that there are two types of the reproduction process, asexual and sexual. Asexual reproduction does not require any additional partner to produce zygote or the new gamete. But is case sexual reproduction there is the requirement of two individuals of the opposite genders to produce young ones. The organisms like animals including humans which perform the sexual reproduction involves the fusion of male and female gametes, which further develops inside the body of a female after the fertilization.

Thus we can say that both (male and female ) types of reproductive organs contribute to the same goal and specialty, that is to produce children and give birth to their new generation. However, there are many points to distinguish between both types of system, which are further discussed in this content.

Basis for Comparison Male Reproductive OrganFemale Reproductive Organ
Meaning Male reproductive organ functions to produce sperms and transfer it to the female reproductive organ to get fertilized and produce the new one of their kind. Female reproductive organ functions in producing ovum (eggs) and when get fuse with the male gamete (sperms), produces the young ones and nurture it till the full growth before birth.
Located The reproductive system of the male is located outside the body and around the pelvis region, to maintain the temperature required by the sperm to stay healthy. The female reproductive system is located entirely inside the body, with entry and exit points at the vulva, and separate openings for urination and menstruation.
Hormones produced Androgen and Testosterone. Progesterone and Estrogen.
Contains important parts like Penis, seminal vesicles, vas deferens, prostate, Cowper's gland and scrotum (testes). Vulva, vagina, clitoris, urethra, hymen, perineum, cervix, uterus, Fallopian tubes, mammary gland.
Functions 1. Produce sperm.
2. To provide sperm to the ovum for fertilization.
1. Produce ovum.
2. Recieve and fertilize the male sperm.
3. Support the development of the growing embryo.
4. To provide nourishment to the infants (newborn) by secreting milk in mammary glands (breast).

Definition of Male Reproductive System

The most important part of the male reproductive system is to produce the sperms (gametes) and transfer it to the female reproductive organ to get fertilized. The male reproductive organ consists mainly of scrotum and penis and lay externally to the body and around the pelvic girdle. This is because the sperms which are produced in the scrotum needs the lower temperature in comparison to the internal body temperature to stay healthy and prevent from being damaged.

The outer layer of the scrotum act as the insulator, as it is made of the fat. The scrotum also contains segments, vas deferens, testes, epididymis. The other important parts of the male reproductive system are the prostate gland, seminal vesicles, bulbourethral gland and accessory gland.

The epididymis is the part where sperms are matured and stored and sent to vas deferens. The role of seminal vesicle and the accessory gland is to produce nourishing fluids and lubrication to the sperms. Testosterone hormone is produced in the testes. Further, the mature sperms are taken by the penis and are transferred to the female genital part, where it takes part in the process of fertilization with the female gamete (ovum).

Generally, in males, chromosomal abnormalities may occur which may pay impact during the development of the male reproductive system. These disorders are seen in the chromosomes called as chromosomal impairment or mismatching. These are Klinefelter syndrome, androgen insensitivity syndrome.

Definition of Female Reproductive System

The most important part played by the female reproductive system as here only the fertilization and further development of the fetus takes place and ultimately supporting in increasing the population of the particular species. Although there is critical role played by the male gamete also, as until and unless the male sperms are not delivered to the female genital part, and met with the ovum, it will not get developed further.

The entire female reproductive system is located internally and nearby pelvic girdle, with the exit and entry point at the vagina. In comparison to male, the female has different openings for urination, menstruation and sexual intercourse. The female reproductive organ consists of the cervix, clitoris, fallopian tubes, hymen, Labia majora, Labia minora, ovaries, perineum, urethra and uterus, vulva, endometrium, and myometrium.

The female gonads or ovaries (two in number) are joined to the uterus via fallopian tubes, and the uterus opens exteriorly through vagina and cervix. The zygote develops into the uterus after the mating of sperm and ovum, and is embedded into the endometrium tissue and starts developing into the fetus.

There are many disease and disorders of the female reproductive system like nonmenstrual vaginal bleeding, vulvovaginitis, ectopic pregnancy, ovarian tumors, ovarian cysts, polycystic ovary syndrome, toxic shock syndrome.

Key Differences Between Male and Female Reproductive System

Upcoming points are worthy to distinguish between the male and female reproductive system:

  1. Much of the male reproductive organ is located outside the body and around the pelvic region. The male reproductive organs functions to produces sperms and transfer it to the female reproductive organ to get fertilize and produce the new one of their kind. On the contrary, the female reproductive system is located inside the body, with entry and exit at the vulva. The female reproductive organ functions in producing ovum (eggs) and when get fuse with the male gamete (sperms), produces the young ones and nurture it till the full growth before birth.
  2. To maintain the temperature of the sperm, it is located outside the body. The female reproductive system does not require this. There is only one opening in the male reproductive system called as penis for the urination and sexual intercourse, while there are separate openings for urination, menstruation and sexual intercourse in the female reproductive organs.
  3. The hormones produced by the male reproductive organs are androgen and testosterone and contains important parts like penis, seminal vesicles, vas deferens, prostate, Cowper’s gland and scrotum (testes), on the other hand the female reproductive organs produce progesterone and estrogen and important parts like vulva, vagina, clitoris, urethra, hymen, perineum, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, mammary gland.
  4. The primary objective of male reproductive system is to produce sperm and delivers to the female genital part of the fertilization while the role of female reproductive organ is to produce ovum; receive and fertilize the male sperm; support the development of the growing embryo and provide nourishment to the infants (newborn) by secreting milk in mammary glands (breast).

Conclusion

The main feature of the living thing is that they reproduce and give birth to the young ones of their species. This is the important process of nature, to increase and maintain the ratio of the population of that particular species. This essential process is named as reproduction, which itself means to reproduce. In this content, we describe the different features of the male and female reproductive organs and how they vary from each other.
