CHI is the first Teaching Health Center at a Community Health Center in Florida

The Brodes H. Hartley Jr. Teaching Health Center at CHI is the very first community health center to become a teaching health center in the State of Florida as of July 2014.“Our vision to become an educational institution of excellence is now realized,” said Colonel Brodes H. Hartley Jr., President and CEO at CHI. “CHI will be contributing to the national effort to train primary care clinicians to meet the needs of the many newly insured from the Affordable Care Act. It also brings a higher level of quality to the organization.

Our Graduate Medical Education programs are fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Medical Education (ACGME). We partner with the Consortium for Excellence in Medical Education (CEME) through NOVA Southeastern University Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Our residents have rotations with the following affiliated partners: Jackson South Medical Center, Larkin Community Hospital and Palmetto General Hospital as well as other local community partners. Residents’ clinical learning environment includes quality improvement and proactive risk assessment measures.

``This increases CHI’s visibility in the health care community and improves our ability to recruit primary care clinicians over the next decade.``

Dr. St. Anthony Amofah
Chief Medical Officer and Chief Academic Officer at CHI.

What Our Residents Say

“I was initially drawn to CHI because the program fell in line with my values and goals. CHI provides healthcare in a way that is accessible and easy to navigate. CHI understands that it is essential to keep our communities healthy. My interest in the program was solidified during my interview day as CHI proved to be full of passionate residents, faculty and staff dedicated to serving their patients in an atmosphere of collegiality. CHI felt like me and was ultimately my first choice! To add a cherry on top, it is in the beautiful city of Miami!”

Katina Richardson, M.D.
Resident, Class of 2023

“CHI is a place that I believe builds character. During the course of training at CHI, I met some of the most intelligent, dependable, supportive approachable co-residents, attending physicians and non/clinic staff. All of the people that were met, the experiences that I went through and the lives that were touched during the course of my training at CHI, has served to build character that’s been serving me well into independent medical practice. It would be fair to say that it would be a privilege for any potential physician to receive their training at CHI.”

Jean Mandat, DO
Class of 2018

“CHI opened the doors to new experiences by providing care to underserved communities. You definitely learn to empathize with those in need. I particularly empathize with patients’ mental health issues and I am focused on providing the best health care needs before anything else. CHI teaches you to develop an understanding of the healthcare barriers the population can face. As a resident in training, I encounter those who struggle with poor nutrition, diabetes, chronic pulmonary conditions, injuries and mental health conditions. CHI provides different healthcare services for our patients among other outreach services under one roof. I believe my training at CHI has prepared me to face today’s barriers in mental health conditions.”
