The factory intake draws cold air from infront of vehicle... Not sure why one would want to spend money to change it. Joined

For maximum induction noise, choose a "short ram" style, but make sure that the diameter of the tube where the MAF is inserted is the same as OE. The system can compensate for a amount of intake system change but too much of a change will throw off its calculations. 2022 Onyx XT Abyss blue pearl Joined

I have a 2.5l NA Subaru outback. I am looking to buy a cold-air intake. Which one do you recommend?
Thanks for your help.

work pretty well, I believe.

It's a car guy joke that the more stickers you have the faster your car is... OHHHH got it. I was trying to figure out how that connected with air intakes. Thanks

It's a car guy joke that the more stickers you have the faster your car is... That is nonsense! It has to be the right kind of stickers.
5.0 out of 5 stars Straightforward install. Good quality.

Install was straightforward but a little tricky. This fit a 2019 Legacy 3.6 R. The last of the flat 6’s. Even fits with the engine cover on, just a little tight. Good quality. It takes a little time to make sure the connections are right but looks and sounds good.

Good product, good quality, but the rubber tube inserts could be a little thicker, had a few bends in the two locations. Think they will work themselves out and they do not interfere with air flow as best i can determine. Fit is good, no real problems. Replacement filter box top is ok, but i ended up removing the original box and fitting the parts together and reinstalled the box to get a correct, tight fit. Took 15 minutes longer. Used little drops of super glue to hold air filter box gasket in place until air filter box was clamped together. Air filter is high quality, high flow dry filter. All parts that were needed included. Nice improved sound with hard acceleration. I'd buy it again.

Quick and easy to install, and looks good. However the photo in the installation manual does not look at all like my stock air intake, even though I have the exact car this was made for. I wrote to Takeda tech support twice, using their web site, and later left a detailed voice message, but received no response at all in over a week. Finally decided to take a chance and install the Takeda.
Don't know about any performance improvement yet, but I'm sure it's there. I was expecting to hear a difference under the hood, but the engine sounds the same. Perhaps that's because the Takeda uses the stock filter box and forward air duct. I may remove the front duct work at some later time.
Appears to be a good product and it fits well. Just hope you don't need any support because it's non-existent. Product would get 4-5 stars but not contacting a customer with a legitimate concern is inexcusable.

I'm using this on my Legacy 3.6R. I know others on the Legacy forums have found actual power gains on the dyno with this intake. And although I haven't had mine on the dyno with just the intake, after I installed it, the "Butt Dyno" felt more powerful. I've since added catback exhaust and an EcuTek tune, and wow the 3.6R is making a lot more power than stock. I'd highly recommend this as part of your 3.6R upgrade path, at least for the tube and airbox. Also once I installed the intake it gave the car a very nice roaring sound at WOT.

Fits 2016 3.6r, very tight fit, but it works great, no change in mpg, but a little louder under acceleration.

This product was nothing less than expected. Installed easy and sounds great too. Thanks AFE Takeda for making such an amazing product!

Subarun 2019 Outback 3.6r Cold Air Intake (CAI)
Just in case any one is wondering, the aFe TR-4304P Takeda CAI does work/fit on a 2019 3.6r with a noticeable power bump. Only other mod on the car was the rear sway bar.
2019 Outback 3.6r, aFe CAI, no dash light of any sort. engine cover does fit after the CAI install. I did not check mileage as that was not my main concern. Sound level is slightly louder especially when under heavy acceleration, not really noticeable at idle. You can feel the pull when you push on the gas at 60mph and it will continue to pull easily to 80-90.
I am very happy with this mod.
The CAI is not CARB certified for any model > 2014, so you would have to restore to factory for a smog, but as far as fit and function is concern, it works great.
There were a few sharp edges that I had to take my Dermal to smooth out, but in general, pretty easy install. Took about 30 minutes, but I am handy around cars, so YMMV. The hardest part might be to put on the rubber trim for the CAI and keep it there while mating it back to the front of the airbox.
Did not have any issue with the length of the EGR tube and the clearance was fine within the engine bay.

4.0 out of 5 stars a Must Buy for all 3.6R Subies
Reviewed in Canada 🇨🇦 on July 12, 2016
I bought this on sale at Amazon for a really good price. It was actually cheaper than getting a custom intake. Thank you aFe for making this fantastic intake for our Subarus. The installation was easy until I had to install the silicon couplers. It seemed the front coupler was a bit too larger and it allowed it to wrinkle and bend possibly blocking airflow. This is because the MAF sensor housing holds or stops the coupler. So I had to trim about half an inch off the coupler for it to perfectly fit. Other than that it was a fairly easy 1 hour install job and the overall package is made of good quality materials. As for its performance, It sounds fantastic at high RPMs (5000+) and it makes a howl reminiscent of my 911 flat-6. At low RPMs it is fairly quiet although It is honestly difficult to hear things at low speeds in my car due to my muffler deletes. Overall I would buy again.

I was skeptical at first but decided to order this intake to try it out on my 2018 Legacy 3.6R after seeing the comments and various forum posts. It does indeed fit, no additional modifications were needed. I have not noticed any change in MPGs but the intake sound is nice on acceleration.
