2014 subaru legacy oil change

The 2014 Subaru Legacy useS6.9 quarts of oil including the oil filter. Subaru recommends that You use synthetic oil when You need to change it. Synthetic oil is engineered to provide superior protection to Your engine components compared to conventional. Synthetic oil also has the benefit of requiring less frequent oil changes. On average You will only need to change it every 7,500 miles compared to the 3,500 to 5,000 with conventional oil. I recommend that You check Your oil at least once a month to make sure that it is full and free from debris. Oil that is burnt or has visible debris in it should be changed as soon as possible to prevent damage.

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT put 6.9qt of oil in your 2014 subaru legacy 2.5i!!!!! The manual itself calls for only 5.1qt WITH an oil filter change. Putting 6.9qt in your engine will make for a very bad (and smokey) time.

6.9 qts for a 2014 is for 3.6R engines, which are turbocharged. The 2.5i takes 5.1 qts.

The type of oil used in the 2014 Subaru Legacy will depend on which engine it has. The best oil to use in the 2.5 L models is SAE 0W-20 synthetic oil. SAE 5W-30 or 40 conventional oil can be used if 0W-20 synthetic oil is not available but should be changed at the next oil change. The 3.6 L models use SAE 5W-30 synthetic motor oil for the best engine performance, but a 10W-30 or 10W-40 conventional oil can be used but should be changed back to 5W30 synthetic oil at the next oil change. Only use oils that have the API classification SM with the words ENERGY CONSERVING or SN with the words RESOURCE CONSERVING or with the ILSAC certification mark GF-4 or GF-5.

Mine uses 0w-20 synthetic. It is a 2.5 liter limited. The above answer is for a 3.6 liter engine, according to my owner’s manual.

The 2014 Subaru Legacy uses both synthetic and conventional SAE 5W-30 oil. Synthetic is recommended, but if synthetic oil is not available, 10W-30 or 10W-40 conventional oil may be used.

This video shows you how to change the oil and oil filter in your 2011 Subaru Legacy. When you change your own oil, you know that you are putting quality oil in your Legacy and that the filter is being changed too. Most importantly, you get a chance to look around under your Legacy for potential trouble spots. This video shows you the location of your oil drain plug, oil filter, oil fill cap and dipstick in addition to the steps needed to change the oil and filter in your Legacy. For most Subarus, you can wrap an old belt around the oil filter and unscrew it by hand. If you can't do this, see our parts page to find a Subaru Legacy oil filter wrench. If your Legacy is too low to the ground to access your drain plug and oil filter, be sure to use jack stands and safe jacking procedures before getting under your Legacy.

Most Subarus have the oil type printed on the oil cap - it will likely be 5W-20, 5W-30, 5W-40, 10W-30 or 10W-40. If it isn't printed on the oil cap, check your owners manual for the exact type before adding new oil. We recommend wearing safety glasses whenever you are working under your Legacy. You never know what could be dripping down from the engine, battery acid, engine coolant, brake fluid, etc. All of these fluids are extremely harmful to your eyes and skin so it is important to protect yourself.
