Honda Civic: How to bleed a clutch
Answered by CarsGuide 7 Sep 2018
Bleeding a clutch system involves purging the hydraulic system that operates the clutch slave cylinder, replacing the old fluid with fresh fluid. This is an important piece of maintenance to do as the fluid breaks down over time, or air bubbles can appear in the system, causing problems actuating the clutch. Bleeding these systems isn't a job for an amateur as they involve corrosive fluids and specific techniques that, if done incorrectly, can cause significant damage.
It is far better to get a qualified mechanic or dealership to bleed your clutch system for you.

I'd guess from the description that the problem will be in the shifter or cable.
People often spill sugary drinks on the shifter...... You should know what happens a couple weeks later.
Pull the shifter assembly off the floor, strip it, dunk it in hot soapy water for a while to loosen the syrup.
Then there's the shift cable, and the linkage and pivots where it connects under the trans.
I'd probably isolate, disconnect cable under the trans and see if the problem is still present. Then disconnect the cable from the shifter, check again.
You have some investigating to do.

2 Automatic Transmission problem
Failure Date: 06/29/2002
I own a 1999 Honda Civic hx. I purchased the car last year and it had 29,000 miles. I took it for a tune up recently and the mechanic told me that there was something wrong with the transmission. My car was shifting from 1 to 3rd gear and missing 2nd gear. He consulted with a mechanic that has a transmission shop next door and he told me that no one will touch the transmission that I had to take it to the dealership. I took my car to the dealership to get a diagnostic. I was told that the whole transmission needs to be replaced and the cost would be around $7,000. 00. It doesn't make sense for me to spend that kind of money on a car that is worth slightly over that price. The worst part is that the transmission has been the same since I bought it. So the problem was there beforehand and now my car is not under warranty. I'm very upset about this whole ordeal. I'm not the only one dealing with this situation. I've gone on different websites and other Honda owners are having similar problems with their transmissions. I really hope your agency investigates this situation nd look into this problem. If Honda produced defective transmissions they should do a recall. Why should the consumers have to pay for a defective item?.
